I know they are both good cards but I can't seem to decide....maybe somebody more tech-headed than I could help?

Btw, I'm upgrading from a ATI 9600 Pro.  These should be a healthy boost methinks. smile

nvidia people will say nvidia ATI people will say ATI. Some nvidia people will say they tried ATI but they had endless problems and will never go back, then the ATI people will say they've never had any problems

There I think this thread is just about played out. slywink

Seriously and unhelpfully, I have a 6800 GT and love it, I've never tried ATI tho. It handled Doom 3 and HL2 with no trouble.

Well, I keep hearing that the 6800 has the new shader 3.0 and the ATI doesn't.  Can't find anything to prove that though.

I'd get a Voodoo 5 5500 PCI!

Does your motherboard support SLI? If not, IMO, there woudn't be much of an advantage going Nvidia over ATI.
Granted I personally prefer ATI over Nvidia mainly because ATI has a "multimedia" reputation (dvds, watching tv, etc.) both cards seem like a good shot whichever one you choose.

Nope, the board is a good 8x board but doesn't support SLI.  Thats ok though, SLI is a bit too new and pricey for me quite yet. smile

You can always go to a few hardware sites (ie tom's hardware, anandtech, sharky extreme) and look at a benchmark/image quality comparisons. Most benchmarks I've seen put the 6800GT as the current fps leader, and with pixel shader 3.0 it becomes almost a no-brainer.

Thats the bend I'm seeing Gordon.  I looked over Tom's Hardware, Anandtech, and a few smaller sites and that seems to be the current front runner.  My birthday is in less than a month, I think I'm gonna get me a birthday 6800 GT. biggrin

I have had ati stuff and it`s good, but this 6800 GT I have SMOKES!!! Great card. I`d look into bfg cards, LIFETIME warranty. http://www.bfgtech.com/ That`s what I grabbed, and I`ve been really happy with it. Later.
