Too many CODECs?

Is there such a thing?
Since the last game program or two I've tried to install/run have installed CODECs, and I've had nothing but trouble from those programs, could I have too many CODECs, or could there be a conflict among them?
I've pretty much ran out of ideas, at least the usual suspects, and now I'm grasping at straws.
BTW - the offending programs are Shadow Ops and the new Metalheart demo.

The K-lite Codec Pack is the only group of codecs that you need.

I also use the K-Lite pack.  Everything runs without a hitch.  No porn will be unplayable for you again!

I dunno, there's an awful lot of porn out there (or so I've heard); are you sure you can play it all?

 

That said, I also recommend K-Lite; works like a charm for me so far.  The only occasional problem for me are streaming media sites which insist on using WMP.
