Rsident evil 4 pc: cyclic redundancy check data error

I recently purchased a used copy of RE 4 for the pc and can't install it due to a cyclic redundancy error in the \data.cab. file. Any sugestions of how to fix this or am I out of luck? The disc is not damaged or scratched.

From what I recall, the CRC check usually deals with a damaged sector on either the disc or the hard drive.  Have you tried to install anything else to see if it functions properly?  I guess basic troubleshooting would also entail attempting to install the game on a different computer to see if it works

Got it figured out--no scratches, but the disc needed a good cleaning.
