Question about emachine in BB ad
«

I currently have a P4 1.8 w/256 mgs of ram and a Nvidia Gforce3 vid card.
I have little money to mess with and I really want to upgrade my machine. I saw Best Buy has the below item listed in the Black Friday ad for $199 and was wondering if its a good deal?
eMachines PC (Celeron 2.66GHz, 17" CRT, 512MB, 80GB, DVD/CD-RW)
Would the emachine make a decent gaming rig?
Thanks in advance.

The Celeron is a pretty weak processor and the video card in the machine will be close to worthless. I would also worry about future upgrades. But with the right video card it could be a decent low-mid range machine. The big problem would actually be getting one. If you want to pick one up make sure you're there by at least 3:30-4:00am if not earlier. Otherwise, all the machines will already be taken by those who got there first.

IMO, that's a good deal for the price, but for gaming, it will suck. Celerons are pathetic as is, and I'm guessing the video in the system will be the weakest possible on-board stuff you can get.
Also, I'm betting that the $199 is after a ton of rebates, and that each store will only have 1 unit for sale.
edit: heh, looks like I copied Dangerball's post, but when I wrote mine, my page was old and only the original post showed. No doubt we were thinking the same things though.

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like my best bet is to save up some more dough and get a better system someday rather than jumping on the emachine tomorrow.
