Been having an odd issue with the PS3 of late. I found that its turning itself on. At first I blamed my wife (always a good tactic!) but then I saw it turn on when I was in the same room. I did the standard thing by taking the batteries out of all remotes (even though they're IR) and the batteries out of the Wii remotes (think they're bluetooth) then went upstairs. About 30 minutes later I heard it pop on. No one was in the room and the room was dark.

I have the PS3 controller removed from the room now so will see if that does anything.

Anyone run across this before or recently? I've had the PS3 for a few years now and this is the first it's happened. Haven't introduced any new bluetooth devices in to the house hold. There internet hasn't been much help since most people are reporting the issue back in 2007 and it having to do with the PSP, routers or light sources (sheesh).

An easier solution might be to put it on its own powerstrip... then just turn it off at the strip. It's marginally safer from electric surges that way anyways. Nothing beats unplugging it though, (mentioned), which is free, though more troublesome.

can't you just turn the PS3 off with the switch at the back? which is what i always do,i never leave it on standby

(oh but make sure you leave it a few minutes before switching off at the back when you have just turned it off from the front into standby mode,as that is apparently the main reason for YLOD...something about expanding a component inside the machine when its still hot...i dunno the details)

are you a member of playstation network?

perhaps its this

Automatic content downloads and updates

PS3 will automatically download and install designated game demos and game updates and also download the system software update data*6. PS3 will automatically start up at a designated time to download content and will turn off after the download has completed.

No. Not part of PSN.

The unplugging or turning thing off I would like to avoid as its a hassle to get behind the media center. I have everything set up so I don't have go in there.

It didn't turn on last night when I had the controller out of the room so I'm wondering if the controller is defective. The other thing I'm thinking it could be is the Harmony adapter. Going to try re-syncing both of those to the PS3 and see if it stops.

For the sake of completion and in case someone else runs in to this the issue was the Harmony PS3 adapater. It looks like during the last update it forgot the device was registered. I guess for some reason the adapter would try connecting to the PS3 or send a "PS3 turn on" signal - not sure why.

In any case the solution was simple. Re-register the adapter on the PS3.

Everything has been working as it should.

I wish I could turn myself on but I'm not hot enough.   icon_lol

But seriously I seem to recall having a similar problem with my older PS3.  I can't remember if it had something to do with another remote I was using or with HDMI, sorry.  All I remember was I kept having to manually shut it down.
