I just wanted to let everyone know, if you are like me and were waiting for an app that could properly play 1080P MKV files without transcoding it into another file type, the iTunes store finally has the perfect app. It even works with absurdly high bitrate, 10 bit anime files. All subtitles also pull across properly.

I've tried it with a multitude of movies and anime, and it works flawlessly so far. I'm posting this because I had given up hope on an ipad player that could consistently play anime after trying 5 or 6 different types over the past 2 years.

Please note I have an ipad w/Retina display, so I can't comment on earlier hardware.

AVPlayerHD

Hope this helps anyone that shared my frustrations.

AVPlayerHD has been out since Dec of 2010. But it could probably still use a shoutout. smile

I've been using PlayerXtreme:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/media-player-playerxtreme/id456584471?mt=8

I also purchased all the addons and I especially like the volume boost. It (volume boost) doesn't always work the way I'd like, but in crowded areas, when it works, it works great.
