memory question

I currently have an AMD 64 3400+ w/ a radeon 9800 pro and 512mb pc 2700 ram.  How great of a performance increase should I expect to see if I upgrade the memory to 1 gig?  Thanks in advance.

It depends on what you normally do. 512 --> 1 GB will help in some games, like Far Cry, Doom 3, and probably HL2. If you do a lot of video editing, photoshop, large file handling, etc, it will help.

The best thing it does for you is to add points to your Geek Card

Just wanted to point to my Geek Card and say I have the exact same setup (AMD 64 3400+, 9800 Pro) but I decided to drop in 2 GB of RAM.  Don't know how much better it is, but it added four inches to my ePenis!

No way to know exactly how much it will help since all programs use memory differently. I wouldn't bother just upgrading to 1 Gig unless you are having some kind of memory related problem or overrun.  Most computer's have only 4 memory slots so if you get 2 512's instead of 4 256's you can pull the memory and use it again on another computer, so it won't be wasted, thus a better idea. More memory is always a good thing, just depends on how much you want to pay, mess with it.

Got the ram for a total of 1gig.  Can already see some differences in load times and performance in doom3.  Now onto Halflife 2!

Oh, and the lady at the store asked me if I had ram in my pocket or was I happy to see her.  Yes!  The ePenis enlargement is working already :twisted: ...
