OMG WANT WANT WANT! Logitech has outdone themselves this time: Pros:
- Backlit with any color - 12 fully programmable G-keys - GamePanel LCD now if I can only justify spending 200 bucks on a keyboard.....

Aw, don't be too down -- I'm sure Newegg, Amazon et al will price it far below that price. Personally, while I'm happy with my fairly comparable Saitek keyboard, I find all the programmable doodad flimflammery largely unnecessary in most games.

Amazon has it listed at full retail for pre-order. It's not currently listed at NewEgg.

I totally don't need said flim-flammery, but the backlit keys would be nice. Of course, it's still a standard straight keyboard, which is no good to me. What I really need is a backlit version of my MS Natural Ergo 4000 keyboard. Then I'd be in heaven.

Agree, but there are much cheaper backlight keyboards out there.

What's the lowest price on a decent backlit standard keyboard? My GF's been wanting one, and it'd make a nice surprise present.

For true Backlight, ie through the keys and not just a glow around the key... probably the Logitech G11. I got mine on sale for around $40 iirc. Great keyboard with some programmable buttons if that's your thing.

My girlfriend picked up a Saitek Eclipse a year or so ago for $38 back when Walmart was selling them, and she loves the thing. Amazon carries the Saitek Eclipse II for $48, which should also suit her needs, but hey, if you can get the G11 for less money, I'd go that route. I've got the first generation G15 (almost 3 years old) and just adore it. IMO, you can't go wrong with a backlit Logitech.

Excellent, thanks for the recommendations. I still really wish they'd make a backlit ergo keyboard. I don't particularly need ergo for gaming, but I definitely don't want two keyboards hanging around.

Okay, after reading some reviews of the Saitek Eclipse II, I see that many of the folks who have used it for a year or more are complaining that the key letters are wearing off, so instead, here's a link to the original Eclipse I for $39, which is the one my gf swears by, and does not appear to have that problem.

The thing with the Saiteks is that they are not truely backlight. At least the one I use to have wasn't. It was a glow around the keys and was actually hard to see it in the dark(terrible glare). The Logitechs light up the letters of the keys only. It is hard to explain but the difference is significant imo. I would suggest keeping an eye out for a sale on Amazon and Newegg. I fond ,my receipt from newegg. I paid $44.95 plus free shipping. It is a wide keyboard so keep that in mind. edit: Google tells me that a place called Geeks.com will sell and ship it to you for $53.99, not a bad deal if they are trustworthy.(5,400 + ratings, looks good) http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?InvtId=967929-0403-R&cm_mmc=GoogleProducts-_-Keyboards-_-WiredKeyboards-_-967929-0403-R&utm_source=GoogleProducts&utm_medium=ShoppingSites&utm_campaign=967929-0403-Redit 2: sorry for the mega link, however they actually have it on sale for $37.99 + $9.00 shipping!!!

My gf's must be a newer version then--it shines thru the letters, just like my G15, only quite a bit brighter---maybe too bright. I can't remember if it has a dimmer.

All I remember was that it seemed really bright. And she's a touch-typist and I'm not, so it could be that she just doesn't notice.

lol I do strafe a lot, even in MMOs that use the wasd combination. Honestly not sure why the w and d haven't worn out like the others lol. But, I guess I have to live up to my name somehow.

No one has mentioned the Saitek Cyborg keyboard. You can have different colors for different zones of the keyboard. Been using one for a few months and find it better than the G11 i was using
