Im looking to pick up a new monitor for my now second PC, got a new rig for christmas smile. Anyway I have it narrowed down to 2 models:

Philips 19" Bright=250cd, Contrast Ratio=500:1, Response=12ms!!, Viewing Angle 160/160, D-sub only.

Samsung 17" Bright=300cd, Contrast Ratio=600:1,Response=12ms!!,Viewing Angle 160/160, D-sub+DV-I

Pricing is about the same on both, within ten dollars. So my question is how much of a difference does the Digital Interface make on an LCD? Is it worth giving up 2" of viewing for the DV-I?

I'm also looking at LCDs.  What is everyone's recommendation?  I remember that Dell's LCD screens were recommended on a past thread about this.  Does the same still hold true?

The Dell Ultrasharp 2001FP LCD was all the rage about a year and a half ago. Friend of mine picked one up and absolutely loves it.

Coming off the holdiays Im just not willing to drop the $800.00 at the moment, the two monitors I listed in my previous post are priced around $440.00. Looking at the various 20.1" models similiar to Dells it seems prices have not dropped that significantly, most still sell for between $700 to $800. The 19" and 17" have seen some significant price drops though and there are quite a few 14ms and even 12ms models now.

Is Dell's 19" just as good as the 20"?  It's much cheaper and the 19" LCD still has a one inch increase of viewing size on a 19" CRT.

The digital on my 15" Mitsubishi definately looks sharper than the analog, but I actually prefer the softer look of the analog.

Are you buying these from a B&M store that has a good return policy?

I'd try the one that you really prefer. And if it isn't what you like, return it for the other one.

edit- policy. not poliky. biggrin

Personally, I wouldn't buy a LCD that didn't have a DVI input. On the few screens that I have seen, there is a definite difference in image quality. But then again, I'm pretty picky. smile

Looks like Dell just put the 2001FP and the 2005FW on sale for 25% off. Baiscally the 2001FP is $599.99 out the door with no shipping charge. I was leaning toward one of the two Viewsonic LCD's but for this price I cant pass up the 2001FP, the few minor differences that had me leaning toward the Viewsonics are outweighed by a $200 dollar price drop smile.
I believe this sale ends on 1/12/05 so just wanted to give folks a heads up. Oh and the 2005FW is basically same monitor only in Widescreen.
There is a link to the 2001FP a few posts up.

I bought my wife a 2001FP for Christmas (with a 25% off special).  It's a FANTASTIC monitor.  I eye it with envy.  I've played World of Warcraft on it and I don't see any ghosting at all.  Runs great.

Grab the 20" Dell immediately.  I got mine about 7 months ago and I wouldn't trade it for anything.  I think I shelled out $750 for the small business price.
