Okay, so I just told our 'new' cable provider (Optimum, who bought our local Bresnan) to fuck off and die when the tried to charge me weird fees to cancel the TV part of my service... which means I'm going with the ONE other option in this town for broadband, Qwest - who I always hated in Colorado - DSL.

They said that it'd be free to run a wire from the street to the house if there wasn't one, but that if I needed a jack installed inside the house it'd be $99.  This seems like a ton of money for something I have an enormous amount of confidence I could do myself for $10... the only part I'm hazy on is how the internal telephone wiring attaches to the external phone company telephone wiring.  We have no phone, and the one thing I am aware of as being phone line (sitting in my office and trying to remember) was torn off of the outside of the house by an overenthusiastic dog.

Can anyone fill in the blanks for me on what I need to have poking out to the outside of the house for them to plug into?  Do I just need a regular telephone cable out there that connects to the internal wiring?
