I've remained happy with my (albeit relatively bulky) Plantronics .995 wireless for almost 3 years now:

It's a bit of a hassle switching between speakers and the wireless headset (I just unplug the transmitter). Mutes mic automatically when you pull it up, and it has volume controls on the sides, and music player control buttons.
Lot of folks prefer lightweight, Walkman-ish style headphones (and if you have kids, perhaps you'd prefer to be able to hear the environs around you). I just got tired of accidentally walking away from my PC with my wired headphones still on. Can't tell you how many times I yanked my speakers or something else off my desk.

A lot depends on if you want:
-Wired or wireless
-Big, thick, ear cups that immerse you in the game's sound; or lightweight, barely on your ear stuff that lets you still hear the environment in your computer room.
-Traditional, over the head style, or the newer, behind your neck stuff (I think there are some of that style that incorporate a mic).
Plantronics' whole line is here (keep in mind Amazon prices tend to be $20-$40 or more below the MSRP listed at Plantronics):
