I need a headset for swtor/vent

The mic on my headset is destroyed.  I quit MMOs few years back, but now I am playing again.
 Whats a good headset for gaming on PC? (But not overly expensive because my kids generally seem to tear them up.)

Define expensive? The turtle beach x12s are a good set for around $50.

Without a cord, there's less for kids and pets to grab onto, and you can just lock it away or something when not using it.   It's a bit of a hassle switching between speakers and the wireless headset (I just unplug the transmitter). Mutes mic automatically when you pull it up, and it has volume controls on the sides, and music player control buttons.

Lot of folks prefer lightweight, Walkman-ish style headphones (and if you have kids, perhaps you'd prefer to be able to hear the environs around you). I just got tired of accidentally walking away from my PC with my wired headphones still on. Can't tell you how many times I yanked my speakers or something else off my desk.  

A lot depends on if you want:
-Wired or wireless
-Big, thick, ear cups that immerse you in the game's sound; or lightweight, barely on your ear stuff that lets you still hear the environment in your computer room.
-Traditional, over the head style, or the newer, behind your neck stuff (I think there are some of that style that incorporate a mic).

*While some folks swear by USB headsets, I've never gotten one to work properly (I've returned probably 3 different ones in favor of basic "in the headphones port" type headsets). Just fwiw.

I have one, and I love it. The retractable mic is great, and you can get the addon to be able to connect it to your 360 and/or PS3.

If you like behind the ear, I have the Logitech G330. Usually runs around $30, surprisingly good sound with good bass, comfortable for long periods. Good enough I bought a second one for my wife who plays WoW for a few hours at a time and she says they're comfortable. Has both a USB option and the 3.5" plugs as well. The USB just works, plug in and go.

I got a plantronics wireless set for about 60 bucks on amazon. Ahh, exact ones you have Blackjack.  

 I tested them last night and they worked great.      Wish I had a set like that for the PS3.

Cool.   Just remember to recharge it now and then. It has very good battery life (I wanna say 8 hours?) but if you tend to play a game you love for long sessions, 8 hours goes away quickly...

I still remember the day I got mine because it was the day I saw The Hurt Locker in a art-house theater complex and posted here about it. I wandered over to BB and it was an impulse purchase (these days, I always try to hop onto a tablet, PC or phone at the store to check reviews, or the forums here before I give in to an impulse game or hardware buy).

The only issue of late I've had is it doesn't seem to work through my USB hub anymore unless I reboot my PC. I used to be able to sort of "hot swap," but now I have to plug it directly into a USB port. Other things work fine with the hub, so I'm a little puzzled. I guess I'll look for a new hub at some point.
