Has AMD gone down hill, or am I getting old?

I noticed that the Catalyst Control Center for my Radeon card hadn't updated the drivers for months, which seemed strange. CCC also didn't seem to have any way to force it to check for new drivers. So I went to re-download CCC since it doesn't seem you can get just the drivers anymore. The first time I opted for their "easiest method" which installed some driver update program that charges for a subscription. Not sure if I followed a bad link or what. Erased that and tried again.

Now it's installing this Gaming Evolved thing. I don't want another social platform. Not sure it's "optimization" suggestions for games are correct either. So what is the point of it? Is this a good thing? It looks like you don't have to use it, but it installed without even asking me. Is anyone using it or is everyone on Nvidia? Is Nvidia pulling this crap too?

[Rant]I miss the old DOS days. Sure you had to know what you were doing and sometimes jump through hoops to get games to run, but you didn't have to put up with all the crapware that everything wants to install nowadays. Nor did you have to sign up/join anything. No I don't want you sending me emails, I just want the drivers. I feel liked I spend more time fighting with my PC that I do using it. (I am a die hard Mac user though, so take that with a grain of salt.)]/Rant]

I like Raptr.  It's not important, but it's a little interesting to see how long I've played a game each week, or compare the time with other raptr friends.

if DOS was still the only way to operate a PC, than I'm pretty sure PC gaming would be dead by now.

I don't like all the emails and crap either, but I just click "unsubscribe" when I get the first email, and then all is well.

Sure I unsubscribe as well, but I shouldn't have to jump through hoops. I like Steam, but now they are putting added layers that want to do the same thing on top of it, like UPlay. Now if I play some games, I get Steam messages, UPlay messages, and now Raptr messages. Yes I can/will/do turn them off but it's getting out of hand. None of these extra services seem to be providing with anything I asked for or wanted.
