i tried to print an adobe scanned file and it shut my print spooler off. help please

You can try turning it on and off manually.

XP - Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Print Spooler

Whenever my printer screws up the first thing I do is unplug its power source and then wait a few seconds before plugging it back in. That usually clears up the failed jobs.

On Windows 7 you can just hit the Windows key, type "services", hit Enter and click the Services (local) item to get an overview of all services running on your computer. Make sure the print spooler service is running from there.

Sometimes on servers I have to delete all the SHD and SPL files in the C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS directory.
