You figure we have wireless networking, mice and keyboards so where are our wiress video cards/ monitors or speakers?  It'd be great to only worry about one or two cords behind the desk.

If it were up to me every wireless keyboard and mouse used on a desktop PC would be thrown into the ocean. No. Not ocean. That would pollute. That volcano in Iceland would work instead.

Oh, and to answer your question: hopefully not until I retire because I frickin' hate frickin' wireless with a passion.

And, yes, I do feel better.  icon_lol

I'm waiting for wireless power. I just have to make sure my dog doesn't walk through the bolt of electricity going from my computer to the outlet.

In terms of wireless power, I read this recently. Extremely interesting how the efficiency goes up as you add devices.

I'm pretty sure wireless speakers already exist. As for something like wireless video from the PC to the monitor I'm guess its speed needed. The bandwidth being sent from a modern PC for video is far higher than a mouse or keyboard so its just not practical.

Probably because wireless stuff can suck. I used to have a wireless mouse and keyboard but have gone back to wired.

you just have ot be sure to get a good wireless set, I love my wireless keyboard from Logitech.  I only wish they'd make the MX518 wireless.

When a wireless mouse and keyboard sit in the exact same place as their wired counterparts and the wires would not have been in the way of doing actual work, wireless just adds a completely unnecessary layer of complexity.

New ain't always better. slywink I do prefer Ubuntu 10.04 to Windows 7, though.

I used wireless mouses (mice?) for a while but got pretty sick and tired of batteries running dry in the middle of gaming sessions.

I agree about wireless power, as way too many supposedly "wireless" gizmos still, in the end, require you to plug a cord into an outlet. How gauche...  icon_razz

I live in an apartment building and if you scan for wireless signals you get about 20 of them give or take. The wife bought a new Laptop and at first used wireless allot, but now is connected directly by cable most of the time cause its faster and more reliable. Wireless for my Psp or Nintendo Dsi is fine in the apartment...for the laptop not so much.

A wireless desktop can't be too far off since TVs are pretty much already offering the option.  The downside at the moment is that you have to plug all your other stuff into a box which then communicates with the TV unless you buy new wireless stuff or their pricey wireless adaptors, but either way its clear the technology exists.  Other then wireless power, of course, since that's still not quite ready for the big time.

But like LoneStar notes, wireless still has its issues.  My wireless internet connection doesn't handle wind and rain all that well and most of the wireless mice and keyboards I've tried have not been as responsive as my wired versions.

If we ever cut the power cord it'll be interesting to see how safe that tech is.

I've been happy for years with my wireless Microsoft KB and Logitech G7 mouse.  I recently added in a wireless headset from creative, no more wheeling over the 10' cord and breaking another expensive headset.

The G7 has a rechargeable battery that takes all of 5 seconds to swap out and the KB batteries last forever, the new headset can be plugged in via usb to charge even while using it.  I only have issues with the mouse when my PS3 is updating via wireless for some reason otherwise nothing else has interfered with it.

That would be great but I still have a bunch of other specialized controllers and peripherals plugged in via cords, not to mention the receiving units for the KB & Mouse.

maybe some day someone will come out with a universal adapter that can be put into the case.

Stick an iPad in the keyboard mount and essentially you have a wireless desktop.  Aside from the power cord (which you can disconnect if you feel like) there are no wires to mess with  icon_smile

I do think a ipad/monitor mix would be sweet. Have it plugged into the base to use on a regular computer, then disconnect when you just want to basic surf or watch stuff.
