So it looks like I could get a Dell XPS 8700 for $850ish that appears to me to be pretty great other than the video card, and I have a video card (Radeon HD 7870) that is plenty fine.  The rest of my rig is 6 years old (Dell XPS 420 - Intel Q6600 cpu, 6gb RAM, and the aforementioned 7870, which I installed earlier this year).

So I figure I could build a similar/better PC and not have to pay for a graphics card I'm just going to yank out anyway, but I don't know what I'm doing at all... so out of the loop these days.

In my mind, I need to buy:

Case + Powersupply
CPU
Motherboard
RAM
SSD
Optical Drive

The current PC will get Windows 7 and go be the family computer.  I will pull an extra hard drive from this, at least for starters, but maybe include a 1TB drive in what I'm looking at.

CPU it seems I want whatever the fancy pants i7 4th gen thing is...

Recommendations?  I need this thing to be solid, all get along well together, and let me both work and play on it.

I know it's GAF and all, but I highly recommend this thread:

Just reading the first post will give you some very solid info and suggestions on builds of varying prices.

Did you go with the parts from your PCPartPicker list?  That's pretty similar to the rig I got a month or so ago, and yeah it looks really good.  smile

Yep, I went with what is on that link, plus my XFX 2GB Radeon HD 7870.  Playing BF4 on Ultra and getting 50+ most of the time.

Thing boots up in seconds... SSD is amazing.

Btw. In case you didnt catch it in all the news about the new radeon cards. the 270x IS crossfire compatible with your 7870.

Just thought I'd mention that.
