did google institute a mandatory autofill feature listing most popular (and mostly stupid) web searches? or did somebody screw something up on my web laptop?

because when i search in google now, i get a list of things that narrows as i type in more letters - its an autofill and its REALLY freakin' annoying

i couldnt find a way to disable it in googles preferences - is there a way to or is this just something new (as in today) that im going to have to deal with... or find another search engine?

It only autofills for me when I am using Firefox.  When I use it with IE, Opera or Safari, nothing happens.

Have you added any firefox extensions? I know one of the google extensions gives you the "suggest as you type" feature. Check your extensions, and check google preferences. you should be able to turn it off.

"CustomizeGoogle" is one of the most popular Google extensions for Firefox. Do you have that? (Click Tools then AddOns)

it has nothing to do with Firefox extensions or toolbar functions.  it's Google's latest official feature, Google Suggest, that just went live yesterday according to the Official Google Blog.  interestingly, they're in a 'roll-out' phase right now, meaning that not everyone is seeing the suggestions yet...but you will over the course of the next week.  i don't actually have the new feature showing up yet, so i'm not sure if it's something you'll be able to disable in Google's search preferences or not...

damnit based on the stuff it was giving me, i had a sick feeling it might be a feature of google and not just someone accidentally turning on my autofill

hmm now to get used to it, or get something besides google

i still havent found anything in preferences to turn it off disarm - but if its only a partial rollout hopefully it will be up there soon

Yeah, I can see it at work but not at home (both in IE).  Kind of funny.
