DVD ripping & reverse converting - what is the best?

Hi all,
Need some opinions on what is the best (free or paid) software out there that can rip to multiple formats (ipod/psp/xbox etc etc) AND convert something from *.xxx to an AVI that can be played on many types of hardware.

Might take a look at DVDFab. Used it in the past and worked incredibly well when I was ripping some of my dvds. Didn't use it to convert files but the option is there depending on which package you choose.
Super is something you might also look at. This one is free. It only does conversions thought.

It doesn't look like they provide ripping if the disc is encrypted/protected.

I will give this one a shot since I have a few FLV files that Super, DVDFab, or the PS3 Converter from 4Media just have a hard time with. Actually I can eventually get Super to work and it plays fine on the computer but the PS3 doesn't like it.

Handbrake is very good, but you need a separate program for ripping/decrypting discs.

Actually, Handbrake can rip DVDs. You need to have VLC installed, however - Handbrake uses VLC's libraries to do the ripping.
