I bought NFH2 off ebay from a guy with a good feedback.  It came in the mail yesterday, I started to install it and it just got started and popped up something like, "AVG threat detected on optical drive E:!",  I closed it out immediately!  Did an AVG scan, Avast scan, ran Spybot, Ad-Aware and Anti-Malware.  Everything came back clean, except for Ad-aware, that found a couple of tracking cookies, which I took care off.  So, I put in the first Neighbors for Hell and it prompted me to remove that disc and put NFH2 disc back in.  I was like what the hell?  So, I restarted the pc and that did nothing.  So, I did it another time and reran all my virus/adware stuff and this morning, I tried to start up Section 8.  It took forever to load up and it was in windowed mode and it finally started to play music and the title screen popped up.  I then hit quit and it just played music with a black screen, so I ctrl, alt, delete to get out.  I then tried to get on Firefox and once again, it took forever to load up???  Anyone know what happened here or what could be wrong?  I've been thinking about getting a new pc, this one's almost 4 years old and has been through hell.  Any help?

Could it maybe be copy protection? The packer used during mastering? Some copy protection like older versions of Starforce are considered rootkits and cause problems when installed, and some Anti-virus programs dislike packers that they can't penetrate.  Also, are you absolutely sure that it's a legit copy and not some conterfeit copy?

It may be copy protected, but other games that I've tried to install that are protected never popped up a trojan threat before?  It doesn't say anything about it being protected on the disc.  It looks legit, it doesn't have a sticker/label on the cd.  It looks like it was "textured" into the cd, if that makes sense?  On the back of the disc, it's the normal reflective chrome look, not black.  It also has Neighbors from Hell: On Vacation 01 in the reflective area and also ***1/1DCR18130*  It came with the manual and disc only.  Here's a link of it: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370248758005&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT  I'm just gonna trash it, I wanted to play it but this is too much crap to go through.

To be honest, the way you phrased that last sentence didn't exactly make it seem like you were going to do anything other than trash it.

Everything about your actual disk sounds legit, what I'd assume you had was a "false positive" from AVG and a quick google for "AVG false positive" turns up 121k hits. Perhaps you could narrow that down with either the nature of the threat (did you mention a trojan somewhere?) or with the filename it allegedly found it in, see if it's one of their known issues. I'm also assuming they have forums you could post in and hopefully get an 'official' verdict.

Thanks.  I guess I did say I was gonna trash it.  Sorry, it's been a crappy week.  I still have the game, so I'll check more into it.  Thanks again
