So, I've had this Creative X-Fi card for a while now, and only just now found some info on getting the card to work the best way possible for gaming in Windows 7.

Turns out the card has a built in positional sound processor for headphone use. Just make sure you set windows so that your speakers are set as a 7.1 speaker setup.

Then in the creative sound card options, make sure the Speaker mode is set to Headphones.

This enables the CMSS-3D tech to take that 7.1 input, and process it into a stereo headphone output that simulates a real 7.1 setup.

I've been using this for years now and just got it setup properly and it's like night and day.

Something else cool you can do is use that same setting with your surround speakers to get your stereo sounds to come out of all the speakers. (e.g., the Front Left and Rear Left speakers will have the same sounds playing on them)

Just set CMSS-3D to on, then click on 'Surround...' and set the upmix mode to Stereo Surround. Make sure the Stereo Envelopment is set to 50%

Are there finally drivers for the X-Fi and Windows 7?  I remember for a while there weren't and I simply gave up and stopped trying.

Yup, though I would get the Daniel_K drivers, they are much better...

You can get them here.

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure I tossed the X-fi when I moved a year ago.
