Wow - this is highly tempting.  I played a fair amount of SH (and expansions) back in high school.  Converting those blips into genestealers was always an intense experience.

I always wanted a copy of the original set and the expansions but never wanted to pay the ebay prices.  The minis are nice.  The bases on the gene stealers look top notch.

I definitely want one, but the heavy allocations worry me.  Supposedly only 10k copies in the US.  I'm going to stop by the game store near my office tomorrow and find out about preordering.  As awesome as it is that they're reprinting it, it really sucks that it might turn into a scavenger hunt to find a copy.

I dropped an order with the FLGS across the street from work.  He says he thinks he'll have enough to get me one.  Otherwise, I'll have to try and get one through other means, or wait for another shipment.  I have a hard time believing GW is only going to do this one print run.

GW's whole schtick is very limited runs of these specialist games.  They'll have the run, make some token effort to support it, but that support will pretty much disappear after the run sells out.  Thankfully there's a big community and it's simple enough to make scenarios for it.

Even though there's rules online for stuff like Epic and Necromunda, that's basically their modus operandi with the side games that aren't 40k and Fantasy.  Make a big song and dance, bring it back, sell out, then ditch it so that eventually in a few years gamers are craving for it enough that they'll buy it again.

Picked up my copy (1 of 4 the local store is getting) from the FLGS the other day. Now the box has to set in storage for Christmas/birthday. My wife was nice enough to open it up, confirm that we have both a rulebook and mission book (I've heard some have 2x of one or the other) and the correct number of counter/floor pages.

I wasn't tempted by this because of the price tag.  Then I saw it at a game store today and I picked up the box and was surprised by how heavy it was.  I saw some people playing it and it looked like a lot of fun.  I just don't know how often it would get played since I doubt my wife would be very interested in it.

Then in the car she told me how I needed to be more well-rounded since I only seem to get excited about games.  What a not-so-fun conversation.

I bought it and assembled the minis saturday.  i wasn't going to paint them, but someone posted step by step instructions for "dipping" them on BGG that seem really easy ...and the results are pretty darn good.

Games Workshop's thing is to encourage the hobby part of the minis games.  Selling pre-painted minis would be completely counter-productive.

Hep, I'm planning on trying the dipping method too.  I've got most of the color paints that I'll need, and I'm going to try and borrow the rest of them off a friend from work.  I also need to snag some plastic glue, since my "waverunner" stealer is pretty well busted up.  If I can't glue him, I'm going to have to try and get a replacement from GW.

Also waiting on my foam storage thing to come in.  Until then, all the minis are sitting in an angry-looking crowd on the spare desk.

If anyone has been sitting on the fence on this one just thought I'd point out that this thing looks to be going out of stock everywhere quick.  I was planning on trying to wait until Christmas due to the price, but I started checking around my usual stores and everything was sold out.  Thoughthammer is sold out and they even increased their price $10 ABOVE MSRP.  They don't even list it as 'sold out' but 'out of print' again.  Only a few on ebay and no deals to be had there as expected...

I picked up a copy myself (the last one at the store) and I have started putting it all together.  I did a test run on an old unpainted mini I have around and it worked pretty well.  Working on painting the door holders and after another test run mini or two I will probably start in on the space marines.

Definitely do a couple of trial runs with the dip before you dip one of the SH minis.

We played out first game last night.  Man was it tense!  The marines won, but on any turn it could have gone the other way.  At the last minute I switched from playing ti slow and steady to a flat out suicidal sprint for the objective.  I suspect the next game won't be as easy.  My shipment of paints come in this week.

Now I am starting to eye Blood Bowl.

Take a look at Grind from Privateer Press too.  It's similar in theme to Blood Bowl, but set in the Iron Kingdom's universe where two teams of steam powered fantasy robots try to smash a giant spiked wrecking ball into a goal.

A question for those folks who have tried or are going to try the DIP method of painting. Did you prime your figures first? The link from this thread did not, but the more comprehensive DIP link from boardgamegeek says to prime first.

If I prime first then I'd have to paint everything back to their base color and I don't know if its worth putting in the time to do so. The last time I painted anything plastic was plastic model planes and tanks when I was a teen, and I never primed anything for those.

I haven't picked up Space Hulk, but I used to paint lots of GW minis.

I think you'll be fine skipping the priming stage.  The miniatures will look pretty good just using the method described in Hepcat's link.  Paint will stick better if you prime, but since you're just painting the details, priming is probably not worth the time.   Spray primer can also obscure the details on a mini if you use too much of it, so that's one less thing you have to worry about if you avoid it entirely.

If you were trying to impress other people into these sorts of hobbies or if you didn't want red terminators, then I would recommend priming and perhaps avoiding the "dip" method entirely.

I'm planning on putting down a layer of Blood Red and then doing some dry brush highlights on that before doing the detail work and dipping.  Mostly I want to cover up some of the off color spots from removing the figures from the sprue.

On my trail minis I primed them black first, but they were the normal grey plastic.

I tried this method for the first time with a random goblin mini I had laying around a few days ago; Previously I painted all my minis and detailed them, taking about 30-45 minutes per mini. I followed my usual approach, but without dry-brushing on details so every major part was a single color. I added a few details after (color the eyes) but all of that work seemed to vanish after I varnished it.

However, the overall result is incredible. Very shiny without being hideously over-shiny, much darker than expected but still overall very attractive. I recommend using shades much brighter than you actually want from the finished product.

I primed all my models black, and still highly recommend doing the same. When you prime all the models at the same time it only takes about 30 minutes or so to do the actual priming.

Also, kind of important - remember that varnish is messy. And it will take a lot longer than GW paints do to dry. (Over 24 hours later, my test mini was still not 100% dry)

Wow, Games Workshop and the stores must be making a killing off this thing.  Just checked TH again based on Raydude's post (from yesterday) and TH is up to $149 on pre-order now.  They definitely must be getting a new shipment though since they've upped the price for a 3rd time and it shows 'pre-order' instead of 'out-of-print' now.  Raydude, good decision to jump in when you did!  On one hand it's kinda discouraging to see the stores start to gouge the customer on this one, but on the other hand its probably better than getting gouged by some random E-bayer (and hoping that you're getting what you paid for).

I can't imagine them doing it, but I would get that copy of the game if they did it because I'm really not interested in painting figures.

Not when they can sell a Citadel Mega Paint Set for $250.

Don't get it for more than $100, it's a good game, but even $100 is pushing it.

I received my copy from ThoughtHammer yesterday. Wow, this thing is heavy! I opened the box and saw how the thick the cardboard was and realized that was a large part of the weight. The models were all still on their sprues with no breakage, except for a small piece that belongs to the C.A.T.

My first thought: the detail on the models is amazing! My second: my god, these are smaller than I thought! I think the pics on boardgamegeek made me think that the miniatures were quite large. So I am all the more impressed by some of the paint jobs on these. Trying to paint those little tiny skulls just boggles my mind. Still, I am up for the challenge and will take it slowly.

Speaking of slowly, I slowly cut out my first 5 space marines from the sprues and assembled them together. I managed to only break off a small tassel from one of the space marines. Luckily, all the chains, skulls, and eagle wing adornments are still intact. I have yet to tackle the space marine holding the skull and spine of a genestealer, the two sergeants, and the flamer and assault cannon marines. They look like they'll require more care in breaking out.

I'm really impressed at the quality of the game components and am glad I managed to snag a copy.

I admit, I'm oddly tempted by this new release.  I've never played Space Hulk before, am only peripherally acquainted with the W40K universe through the Dawn of War games, and was completely oblivious to this as it was being released.  Now I'm wondering if I shouldn't pick it up and see what all the excitement is about, although the $100 price tag is a little tough to swallow at the moment.  My local game store still has something like 30 copies of this, so I suppose I have some time to make up my mind.
