I knew the box was going to be huge, but I wasn't expecting this:

Holy crap, you got that thing? I was interested when they first announced it, but then they bumped the price up to $450, and I stopped being able to justify it. I'd still love to be able to buy the bigger map. The current one is way too small in the vital areas around a lot of the strongholds.

No, I didn't purchase it. I saw that picture and just had to post it because of how huge that box is. Usually you see babies or cats in board game boxes. You could fit a whole litter in there!

Yeah, it's bloody huge. Over at Boardgame Geek there's an unboxing video that shows the shipping cartons. The outer one is twice that size.
I really would love to have one of those sets, but I don't know where I'd keep it.

I'd have a hard enough time just getting the regular game and all it's bits to fit around my gaming table. That would be next to impossible. I do love the look of the quality of it though.

I think this whole thing could start a neat little trend of purchasing boardgames which you can then be buried in...

Forget the box, look at the rug that guy has in his living room. It's like he bought it at the Rug Store version of IKEA.

That's why the call the FFG boxes "coffins," right? As soon as I saw that picture I thought; "when her dad finishes taking the picture, that little girl's going to hide in that box and cause a panic."

Really, just grab the regular edition (if it's still in print). It's almost as impressive, and the gameplay is just as spectacular.

Agreed, the regular edition of War of the Rings, is a very impressive game too, although it does appeal more to gamers with a bent toward wargaming. Not to worry though, as there's a number of excellent Lord of the Rings themed boardgames. Also worth a boargamers' time and money IMO are: LotR The Confrontation; The Lord of the Rings boardgame and Middle Earth Quest.
