New Games Perspective?

Was in Goodwill today and picked up 4 DOS games.....King's Quest VI, Need for Speed 3, Wizardry Crusaders, and Conquest of Camelot.

In the Wizardry box was the original purchase receipt from Babbage's, and it said $58.99.

$58.99? 
Really??

Anyway, it gave me a new perspective on game prices today.

Yeah, people sometimes don't understand how lucky we've been that game prices haven't changed much, despite the fact the development costs have risen exponentially. I clearly remember paying $40+ for Atari 2600 titles back in the 80s, and all the PC games I bought from the early 90s on were $50. Considering the value of our dollar versus that dollar back then, you can make a case for game prices actually dropping rather than increasing.

Those were the days. I remember winning a demo copy of Conquest of the Longbow in like 92 or 93. Didn't get a computer till 94. then I could never find it. Anyays some games were $60 some $70 and some more. Origin games were very expensive but always worth it. I loved the days of $39.99 games. For a long time there..maybe 1999 - 2005 or so thats what all new games were. Now they are running $50+ again.

Have you tried calculating the price adjusted for inflation? Just because games cost $60 then and still cost $60 now, that doesn't mean they're anywhere near the same price range for the time they were released. According to an inflation calculator I just googled up, that $60 price tag in 1990 equals about $100 today. $60 in 1985 is nearly $120. Imagine those prices today!

I didn't even blink at those prices back then. Crazy. I'd go in the stores and pick up a game or two and 2-4 magazines. And I read them. Now I hardly buy much and the mags i get in the mail hardly get read if at all. I've lost my mojo. Time has robbed me. I would get so psyched for what was coming out. now it's sorta going through the motions. I don't know if I need to get off my meds or get more
