I probably shouldn't post in here....... the Missouri State championship is tomorrow and I need to prepare. I also killed the last thread.
Garruk is the strongest of the five planeswalkers. By a lot. Might explain why he has a $15 price tag on his head. There's a lot of ways to build a deck around him. I've played against a Red/Green big mana deck that pumps out Bogardan Hellkites on turn 5 thanks to his first ability, and then overruns you a turn later.
It was kind of sick.
Jace is the most controlling of the five. He's probably the most boring, but a friend of mine is playing a turbo-fog deck tomorrow at states with three of him, as the primary win condition. If you don't mind your opponents drawing cards, he's a fine choice. Personally, I'm not 100% sold on his usefulness in constructed. He's my least favorite. For casual multiplayer, he's the best one. (Who doesn't like howling mine?)
Ajani Goldmane is the first planeswalker I ever played against, at the pre-release. Literally, his second ability means 'Fuck you - My creatures are bigger than yours, I win'. He's quite hard to answer. His avatar ability is mostly useless, I think.
Chandra and Liliana, I've never played with or against, so I don't really have a comment.
The one time I drew one (Garruk), the game was already over and I beat face with what was already on the table. I've stuck an Ajani in my Kithkin deck 'cause I think it'll work fairly synergistically, but I'm thinking Austere Command is a FAR better rare.
I respectfully disagree. Austere Command's 6 casting cost is steep by white weenie aggro standards. The average curve of a WW deck is usually 4. Not to mention that Ajani Goldmane has a ridiculous amount of synergy with the kind of creatures you're casting. The removal you need is better served with cards like Temporal Isolation and Oblivion Ring.
For a kithkin deck, I think Militia's Pride is a fine rare choice.

BTW, want a FUN way to play with a large group of people, but don't want to have to worry about friends keeping up with having a deck of Magic cards to play?
Then Big Deck is for you! It's just like playing a game of normal magic, except that there's only one deck (and it's HUGE), there's no need for land cards in the deck (so no one gets mana screwed ever), and every game feels hugely different.
You need - 1 magic the gathering collection. I recommend trying to keep all the cards about the same power level. Grab a stack of commons and bad uncommons for the first time.
Each player gets a hand of seven cards. No mulligans.
Each player then takes turns as normal, just like a multi-player game of magic. Feel free to use any house rules you like. Players can play any land face down that is all land types, and taps for any color mana. Shared graveyard (so re-growth effects that only effect your graveyard effect the shared graveyard).
It's a lot of fun. I can explain more if people want.
I created my own big deck. It's about 800 cards (all sleeved) with a ton of rares and foil crap. Pretty much every promo I get goes in the box. I'm always adding cards to it too. I try to keep cards that slow down games (armageddon, winter orb, etc) out of the deck, and anything that searches for cards is out (takes too long).
