Looks like E3 2009 will be returning to it's roots:

http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/690276/E3_Returning_to_LA_Convention_Center_in_2009.html

Here's the details so far:

- It will happen on June 2nd-June 4th at the Los Angeles Convention Center.

- While E3 2009 still won’t be technically open to the public, the ESA plans on getting rid of the rigorous vetting procedure that has kept attendance down for the last couple of years. So expect attendance to shoot up by the thousands!

Another source was saying the show will be open to the public on Friday and Saturday.

I want more info before I get excited, but this is looking to be good news for the industry which was left with a gaping hole when E3 got scaled down. I'm sorry but PAX is too nerdy even for me to attend  icon_wink

Okay, this was partially a good thing. It's next to impossible to try to do much of anything when you have to wade through crowds to get from place to place. Yes, they cut it down WAY too much in later years, but the mob of past years was too much.

When was last years E3?  Part of the reason this year's E3 sucked seemed it was partly due to then pushing it back in the year, which made it closer to LGC and TGS, so companies would hold back game announcements for those other shows.

June 2-4 means I won't go.  I have another convention I go to that weekend.

I might. Tongue We'll see if I can get a training class around that time in Costa Mesa.

Free flight FTW!

still doesn't mean the companies will want to revert back to the old ways...

i seem to remember quite a few companies mentioning that they liked getting away from expense of E3's old format, both financially and from a time perspective.  preparing for the large-scale E3 of years past cost companies in a lot of ways just to keep the public entertained, and there's nothing to say participants will want to go back down that road...

This could easily sway me into not going at all.  I won't fight the public for coverage.

As media won't you get private showings?

Plenty of other places to find pictures of scantily clad women.  But, I suppose it's hard to find them in costumes of our favorite game characters.

Still, I remember my first E3 experience courtesy of a GT/OO member.   They had a booth for the Singles 2 game which consisted of 3 scantily clad women and a guy in a miniature apartment just sitting around.  It was weird, surreal, and a bit pathetic.  It was also surrounded by people taking photos.
