It's a decent list and better than 90% of what I've seen. My only quibble with it is some of the games they chose for particular franchises; i.e. I wouldn't include LoZ:WW in place of LoZ:OOT, Tony Hawks 3 in place of 4 or SSB Melee in place of Brawl. I'm sure others would take exception to Super Mario Galaxy being included over World, and I'd actually include both.  Oh...and Star Wars KoTOR is much too low on that list. slywink

People were fairly surprised about some of the big names missing, such as those beginning with H and ending with O and beginning with Gears and ending with War.

Super Mario World came out in 1991 in the US.
Ocarina of Time came out in 1998.

The timing of these games' release dates would exclude them from this list.

Doh...yeah I missed the decade part in the list. That then, is indeed a very good list. I'd still allow LoZ:OOT to sneak in if I was them - just cause it was so damn stellar. slywink

While I like that list more than most of the others I've seen, there are some real head-scratchers on there.  Civ III over Civ IV?  Lost Odyssey over FF XII?  Mother 3 at #3?  Strange choices...

Civ III over Civ IV?
Yeah that was definitely a WTF for me.  I know there are people that really like Civ2, and I personally liked Civ3, although I know many did not.  But I just can't see picking Civ3 over Civ4, which IMO is the best of the series.  All I can think of is the people making the list are non-PC players and maybe never even played Civ4.  Are there any other PC games on the list other than #7. Diablo II?

No Baldur's Gate 2 makes the list null and void, IMO.

Halo 1 was a hotly anticipated PC game that launched MS into the forward position it is now in the world of "real" video games (cooking mama, you're voted off the island).

Even if it isn't in the top 20, it certainly belongs on this list. It's omission is a glaring bias. The next thing is the sandbox games. GTA3:SA is the highest rated game at 30, and is NOT the pinnacle of the genre, which this current and previous generation have been clamouring to perfect.

No Mass Effect. Pardon?

Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed, Gran Turismo, Forza, PGR ... NOT ONE RACING GAME. For sports, you have Tony Hawk 3. Really? 10 years, hundreds of sports games and the best one, which sits at 35, is THPS3?

What about Giants : Citizen Kabuto, Escape From Monkey Island,  and NOLF? No Crimson Skies, Morrowind, Oblivion, Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six 3, Kingdom Hearts, Chronicles of Riddick, Oddworld Strangers Wrath, any DMC's, Gears of War, and on and on and on.

Wind Waker, really? REALLY? That game with the kid who plays the duracell jingle to change direction of the wind, fucking up migratory patterns and destroying crops on a whim?

If they want to dig up stuff that's fine. When you start telling me the plate of ancient dog-turd is dee-licious they can go lick themselves in uncomfortable places.

... like the back of a volkswagen.
