There is a very fun play by email version of this game. Are there folks that would be interested in playing? If we get five (well, 4 others) I will set the game up. Post your interest and nation you would prefer (if any). When we have 5 I will ask the players to PM me their email addresses and I will set up and start the game.
1. Remus West2 - Japan 2. Boudreaux - USA 3. Raydude - Germany 4. xvzinjvx - Britain 5. turtle - Russia

Is it using the rules for Axis and Allies Revised? The revised edition defines victory cities where each side controls 6 of 12. Then players can decide how many victory cities to play for. Playing for 8 victory cities helps keep the game from lasting forever. Plus the revised edition added artillery and destroyers and changed the eastern front to have more smaller territories.

It's been a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG time since I've played Axis and Allies, so I will need to re-learn the rules, but I'd be interested, especially in a PBEM format.

As I have never played this game in any other format (I'd seen the board game but never played) I do not know for certain which rule set is being run but there are no victory cities. Victory is military (occupy enemy capitals) or economic (for the Axis). There are no destroyers or artillery. I assume it is the basic rule set.

Everything is done online. The site (gamesbyemail) runs the dice roller and everything. You take your turn then send a reminder via the site to the next player. The map and everything is online and each player checks in whenever they want to see where the game is progressing to. There is a game log to follow the action from turn to turn if you want to know exactly what other players did rather than just see the results.

Sounds interesting. I would join if I knew the rules but unfortunately I've never played Axis and Allies. Now if ya'll ever get around to having a 4 player Gary Grisby's World at War game then give me a shout

Alright, that is 5. I'll try and send out PMs tomorrow to get email addresses and get the game set up. Once I have it set up I will also post a link here. If anyone else wishes to pick a nation please post it here so we all know.

Gmaes has been started and reminder sent to Turtle (well, gotta consider it an alert actually ). Anyway, link to board removed. Not sure how to put a generic one up. if you want to see the set up. Good luck to all. As a side note one of the things the site will do when the game is over is offer to start another game. If we do that it will randomize the nation each player gets leaving out the one(s) already played with that group. Kind of a neat option but we can discuss how you guys feel about it after Japan rules the world along with her German underlings.

Does the game log work for observers or just players? If that funstion works for you then you can watch the entire thing just like you were sitting at a table with us.

Well I can't say too much, but I started with a strong attack with some good rolls as the Russians, it'll be interesting to see how Raydude as the Germans responds.
I hope my Western allies step in quickly to take pressure off the Eastern front.

I got crap for attack roles, but it was a pretty misguided attempt in the first place. I don't think I did too much damage to myself yet.

Don't go for weakening heavily fortified areas, that just kills troops, think about opening up fronts, forcing a more even dispersal of troops and taking resources.

That link is your link, not a link to the general game. Fortunately for you the only thing someone could do is take your turn or screw with your message boards.

After 4 or 5 turns now it's becoming very apparent to me that whatever familiarity and/or skill I developed from my previous plays of A&A, which was admittedly about 20 years ago, is gone. So far I feel like I'm about 2 steps behind everyone else. Obviously not moving my transport to block the Red Sea was a mistake Regardless of whichever way this turns out I think I want a rematch. Or at least a chance to screw up less.

I think we've been a little too easy on Remus and his Japanese troops, now he's spread like the plague all through Asia.
Well, I play boardgames a lot, albiet lately I haven't played games like this. Instead I've been playing games like Tide of Iron, Game of Thrones, Warrior Knights.
I think it'd be cool if someone took the concept of A&A, then made a scifi version of it. However, to keep the game fresh, the alliances, starting units, technologies, and placement could be different via set scenarios.

Man, there's three of my favorite games that I never get to play. I've had Game of Thrones and Tide of Iron for awhile, and only played them a couple of times. I got Warrior Knights probably 6 months ago, played it once, and haven't touched it since.
Have some family coming in this weekend and I might get to play one or two of those - here's hoping.

Starcraft: The Board Game? Haven't played it, but this might be the closest thing to what you're talking about.

I have heard great things about Starcraft: The Board Game but have not played it either. Game of Thrones rocks though. Love that game. I really think it does a nice job of being a great game AND of capturing the flavor of the novels which is very impressive.

The main issue with the starcraft board game is the way they handle combat. To resolve combat you pair up individual units and play cards with attack values that change depending on the unit that you have out, your opponent's unit, and any special abilities that the unit or card has. This doesn't have the same feel as A&A where you have the whole army you just send in on the mat and rolling out. The closest thing to what I'm looking for was Risk 2210, the only problem with it was that it was Risk, only one unit type and a pretty basic combat system. Nexus Ops also had some hope, but it was way too limited. Maybe I should just talk to Semaj about developing a game like this for PBEM/Web play using his coding skills and my artwork. Development should go faster than the complex Z-Com design he has right now.

turtle you seem to like ffg and i know they have a risk-like game called dust. i know its there and exists, but i couldnt tell you if its any good or worth it so...
ive peaked at the rulebook and it didnt do anything for me - the map "regions" arent the typical idea of a region and this really turned me off - but if youre into that kind of game you might want to check it out

I've played Dust, it's alright - nothing remarkable. It has two rulesets, one basic and one "epic". The basic game is about 2-3 hours and is so-so. The object is to hold "power centers" around the map, and what ends up happending is everyone turtles around their center and it's tough to get big conflicts going. Some interesting things but like I said, nothing remarkable. The epic rules looked a little more interesting but that game clocks in at 4-5 hours, which is too much for me.
