Since the WOW boardgame gets its own topic here, I might as well post about my favorite boardgame, A Game of Thrones and its expansion, A Clash of Kings.
If you haven't heard, they're based on the novels of the same name by George R. R. Martin.
They're great boardgames on their own, but even better if you've read the books and understand all the political and military intrigue going on in the backstory.
The best way to describe the game is a mix of euro style interwoven game mechanics and intricacies, along with a dash of US style wargame, and a chaser of Diplomacy.
