I didn't dislike the old site and after seeing the new site, I'm starting to love the old site.

At least the old site filled up the width of the screen.  The current site leaves half the width of my monitor unused.  Huh? What's up with that?

Another thought, I liked the old color scheme better than the new one.  There is just something downright garrish about the CG logo at the top.  Everytime I launch the page, I start screaming, "MY EYES! MY EYES!"  It must take 6 D batteries to run the new "CG" gold logo at the top of the site.  MAN that thing is loud!

Lastly, and this really has nothing to do with the design of the new site, when is the News ever going to be updated again?  e3 is longgggggggggggg over.  Did everyone at ConsoleGold die? ;-)

I can tell you that its the width of the page that is throwing you off.  Its a known issue and we are working on a second version at 1024x768 as well as a scalable one that fits almost any resolution.

As for E3, it ended Friday, but we'll be uploading screenshots and such for a long time.  That said, expect the site to switch back from E3 mode shortly. (And it was updated yesterday, I posted over 180 screenshots myself and there were 11 or so news items)

w00t!

Now, if you can kill the high-intensity, 3-foot-by-2-foot "CG" at the top of the page, life would be good. ;-)

Its a known issue
/raises hand. Uhh Mr. Burke? How can something that was done intentionally be called a 'known issue'?

For the initial launch - we originally had planned on launching a 1024x768 site, but after looking through the web server logs - we could see that there were still a large number of users who view the site at 800x600. So we discussed it and decided that the intial launch should try and support the maximum amount of users possible.

We will have another version of the site formatted for 1024 x 768 this summer (now whether that's something that will auto-select for you or if you'll need to choose that size format via a user preference isn't something I've figured out yet). However - I wouldn't count on a "scalable one that fits almost any resolution" - that would be a fairly easy item to do if we were still primarily text based, however with the new emphasis going on a much more graphical look - that is a very difficult task to do well (especially if you don't want to have miles of empty space surrounding graphical items on the page when run at ultra-high resolutions). That's not to say it's not something that is going to be looked into, just don't want you to have unrealistic expectations.

;-) yes, one of the 'future features' would allow a bit of site customization, so you could have some other options besides that current logo.

I would anticipate that sometime this week it will convert back (I'm thinking Thursday - mainly because I'm trying to play catch up with my real job and family after spending last week at E3). Plus as Ron said, there is still a large number of E3 post-writing that is still being completed.

The white background makes the site harder to read.

Hmmm - where are you seeing a white background? Cuz We should have all the text on the site with a silver/gray background.

Just point me in the right direction and I'll fix it.

Thanks

You already know my criticism of the site (it's over at the GG console forum).

But I have to post this after reading the above...

Making separate versions of sites to cover your audience is BAD web design! THIS is what CSS and XHTML is MEANT to do. Make ONE site that degrades GRACEFULLY over browsers and even mobile devices.

Glad to see all the news is now on one page again.  I really didn't like having to click on each item to read it.  Much easier to browse now, thanks!

Sorry, I meant the forum pages. Dark text on a white background is very eye-straining for me.

Hmm, maybe it's me, or did the background color for posts just recently change?

Well I know you were kidding around.  But hes got a point.  Seeing a white screen isn't exactly like looking at a piece of paper.  All that white is actually lit up phosphorus (well depending on your monitor of course) that slams light into your eyes.  If you have a bad refresh rate then your eyes are really taking a beating.  I agree with him anyway.  I can't wait for the customizable forums. biggrin
