Guess not.  I'm seeing issues where some threads (i.e. the Steam Deals thread) aren't working correctly.  You'll click on page 94 and it takes you to...hell, I don't even know.  I know which database table to repair but it is huge...trying to research how to do that safely.    Stand by.   New threads shouldn't be affected at all, and it seems that *most* threads are working as intended.   icon_evil

We could start another thread if that one is no longer viable.

Ron, during the outage when the page was non-responsive on the web, it was functional through tapatalk. I was able to post to it and it was only afterwards when I pulled the page in a browser and saw it wasn't coming up.

I just checked the steam deals page through tapatalk. It loads up ok and shows the posts I added.  Think if I delete them, it might free whatever is blocking it from displaying on the web.  Worth a shot?  I'm not going to risk causing damage unless you give the signal.

I checked on the web.  wow, that is an odd one.  any page number you select takes you to this weird page of old posts, but the 'last post' takes you to the right spot.

well, technically, it takes you to the first page of the deals thread itself, but with the steam deals thread title in the url.

I think it's an indexing problem.  Adding or deleting may or may not help.  Might not do anything at all.  Can't hurt though - give it a try.   smile

Found the paging issue and fixed it.   We are back in business 100%.

Please let me know if anyone finds bugs of any kind so I can tackle them.

ha.  Just deleted the last three posts and refreshed to see that it was up.  Thought I'd fixed it there.

good that it's back up.

what happen?

That is a great question.  We took a massive influx of folks to the forum and it flipped over and cried like a little girl.  When the database crashed it corrupted the table for the forum posts.  That's nearly 1 million posts.  0_0     Attempting a repair from phpmyadmin GUI was fruitless due to the size of the table, but it did take the whole box down in its wake, twice.  I went through some of the code and repaired sections by hand and was able to repair the rest from the command line over night last night.  After that, a few more crashed tables surfaced.  I knocked those out.   The last one was a 2GB cache file called "Pretty URLs".   It's what makes this post, as an example, http://gamingtrend.com/forums/forum-and-site-feedback/so-the-news/ easily read from the title rather than saying something like http://gamingtrend.com/forums/forum-and-site-feedback/23498071    Using the knowledge I gained from repairing the other obscenely huge file I was able to crank that one out, fixing the paging issue (users who clicked page 95 of the Steam Deal thread, for instance, instead just redirected to a random page in the forum).

I've done a great deal of maintenance on the forums and they seem zippier than I've seen in a very long time.  I think, while painful, this netted us some additional speed (and me a lot of knowledge) in the long run.

I'm actually planning exactly that.   We are looking at alternatives that would seamlessly integrate with the front page as well.  As far as funds, I'll probably do a small fundraiser to try to do this right.
