Found the source of the issue - when the stats engine for the server is running it bogs the site terribly.  I'll be changing those stat engines to run at around 1:00am so we'll see if that fixes it for you.  Sorry about that.

Running very slowly again this morning.  I've timed out a couple times, and also seen a couple "could not connect to the database" errors.

I've got a ticket open with our vendor.  There is something going on beyond my technical expertise.

I can ping the site perfectly well but it's running very slowly nonetheless - and I've also, this afternoon, been getting the dreaded SMF errors.

its strange, because it seems like the top-level, i.e. where you can see all the forums seems to be working pretty well. Its just when you click a topic or a catagory that it freezes completely

The host is claiming that there is a cabling issue.  We are going to have the cables swapped out tonight in the middle of the night.   Let's see where that leads.

Yep, the cable was changed this morning.  *shakes head*   On the plus side of things, the site seems very very quick at this point.  I'll try to keep an eye on it today.

Go to your profile, click on Look and Layout Preferences.   Is Return to topics after posting by default checked?

I'm not seeing this behavior.....
