So, why hasn't Canuck been asked to take down the Japanese Battle Flag as his Avatar?  Would it be okay if used the Nazi Swastika for mine?

Would you have an issue if he used an American flag?  The Japanese Battle Flag is still in use today (by the JMSDF) so I don't see the issue.

Dirt.  This is your first and final warning.  You end around on my moderators again and you are permanently banned.  I hope I'm perfectly clear on this.  We received your report, we discussed it, we made a decision.  Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it is suddenly open to the court of public opinion.

Is it in bad form to use this Forum & Site Feedback thread to post about being offended by the third dungeon in the original NES Zelda?

Spoiler for Hiden:
By the time I get to that level I've usually already upgraded to the white sword.  Since that one kills the big blob guys in one hit, I never get to see them split into two like the big bats do.

Spoiler for Hiden:
Yes, I know it's a manji.

I'm asking for more understanding towards those that were oppressed and know people who have been oppressed under the Imperial Japanese who flew that flag.  Why ignore the fact that the Imperial Japanese Battle Flag represents the same thing to many Asians as the Nazi Swastika represents to the Jewish?  I'm not trying to stir up trouble.  I honestly find it offensive.  In fact, as an Asian and not a Jewish person, I find it more offensive than the Nazi Swastika.  The swastika, in fact, is still used in Japan, Korea and China as a Buddhist symbol (thought the angling is different).  A different variation is used in Hinduism and Jainism (there are dots in the spaces between the prongs and the angling is different).  Why is so difficult for you and the other Admins/Mods here to understand that there was more than one holocaust during WWII?  And that the other holocaust perpetrators had a symbol that represents everything that was evil about their culture and their nation?  Yes, I know the Japanese Self Defense force still uses it for their Navy.  But their Navy only patrols their own country.  I guarantee that if they tried to patrol the world with that same flag, Korea (both), China, the Phillipines and a host of South East Asian countries would disallow it.  The fact that Japan still uses it does not make it right or official.  On the same note, skin-heads use the Nazi Swastika, I think we can all agree how wrong it is.

I'm asking the Admins and Mods to expand their understanding of what is and is not offensive outside of just Western culture, history and thought.

Even some Japanese agree with me:

I guarantee you are wrong.  I have personally participated in a naval exercise called RIMPAC (which stands for Rim of the Pacific).  Japan is one of the participants, along with numerous other countries including South Korea.  This exercise occurs in international waters.  Indeed, the year I participated, Pearl Harbor played to host to the navies from the participating countries.

You are the only person who has complained about this.  Based on your single complaint I will not ask Canuck to change his avatar.  Further, as Knightshade mentioned, you have previously contacted the mods about this privately and received a response.  If you wanted further clarification then it would have been appropriate to respond at that time and via those channels.  Instead, like clockwork, you pop up here once a month and question it, then disappear again. If you don't consider that answer adequate then too bad.

However, should anyone else in the community find Canuck's avatar offense, please PM me or one of the other mods so we can further discuss it.

Was the Rising Sun Flag being flown in clear site for everyone to see?

You can read the articles I've posted.  Even some Japanese acknowledge the evil of the Rising Sun Flag.  Make a stand.  Let people here know that gamingtrend.com doesn't tolerate symbols of hate and evil, no matter how familiar or alien that symbol may be.  I am imploring the powers that be to do the right thing.

The fact that Japan still uses it does not make it right or official.

Actually, since the sovereign nation of Japan still uses it... that DOES make it official.

Squint at the back.  You can see that it's the battle flag.

There isn't anything wrong with it. Dirt is a whiny little insert your word here that shows up only to stir up trouble. OO finally banned his ass for trying to be a pariah? Good. Ron has a lot less tolerance for nonsense than they do.

Please, stop digging your grave.  Everyone has asked you nicely, but you are on a seeming crusade to get yourself into trouble.  If you don't like it, download Firefox, adblock, and block the offending image.  Heck, I think even vanilla firefox has that option.

Digging my grave by providing proof backing my opinion?  Isn't that what I'm supposed to do?  Isn't the idea that I don't normally do so the reason so many people dismiss me?  How am I supposed to back my opinions if I don't cite sources?  I do still have the right to voice an opinion, yes?  If not my personal opinion, why cannot I cite the opinions of others through reliable sources?  The articles I've posted show that even Japanese people view the battle flag as a symbol of Japanese Imperialism which was filled with aggression and atrocities.

or you could go to your profile, look under forum layout and click on the box that says 'Don't show User Avatars'.  Unfortunately the option to delete your own account was taken away, so that may be the best solution.
