Serious problem w/ Safari (Login verification failed + Session timed out)

I can't post anything anymore with Safari. Nor can I edit posts. If I try to modify or quote a post, I'll get a "verification failed, please log out and log in and try again" screen. Ironically, when I try to logout... I get that screen, too!

Plus when I try to make a new post, I get the new post screen, I can type my post and all that, but when I click submit, it will say "Session timed out. Please try again". Trying again doesn't help.

I've cleared my cookies to no avail.

Ideas?

Ouch.  Mike uses Safari - can you get him the version number you are using and such so he can give it a go?

I haven't seen anything like that on my end (posted from Version 5.0.2 of Safari).

I'll look it up and see what might be causing it.

I'm on the latest Safari (5.0.2) on OS X 10.6.4.

From what I can tell there is an issue with Safari and SMF forums, but it doesn't happen with all safari users and there is no fix. Have you tried logging out and then logging back in?

As I said in the OP, when I try to logout, I get the verification failed screen. Pure irony.

The only way for me to logout is to clear my cookies. And that didn't help.

EDIT: It worked. I just did a clean install of OS X. It's working again.

I've been wanting to do a clean install for a long while, mind. I didn't do it *just* because of this issue

Thought that was one of the benefits of OSX, you don't have to worry about doing things like clean installs? Luckily don't have this bug on either of my Macs.

Thought that was one of the benefits of OSX, you don't have to worry about doing things like clean installs? Luckily don't have this bug on either of my Macs.

It has been almost two years since my last install, and I upgraded to Snow Leopard instead of a clean install like I should, and I made some mess playing around with theme managers, plugins and even trapping Safari in 32-bit mode because I tried to install a plugin that somehow prevents me from switching Safari back to 64-bit with the terminal.

Like I said, I've wanted to do this for a long while. Sure feels good running on a fresh install now
