Problems with the forum index page

I'm having a weird thing happen today.  I can access the forums using this URL: http://www.consolegold.com/forums/

But if I try to go directly to the index http://www.consolegold.com/forums/index.php then I get the following error message:

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

Something brokey?  I thought the site was down this afternoon then I realized I had my bookmark set to the index instead of the first url.

I get that error at least once every couple days. I figured it was because the database was down at the time.

There is an unfortunate disconnect between our host and us.  You see, we expect to have the 99% uptime that they promise and they threaten to disconnect us if we so much as make a sound.  If that happens we are dead in the water as we can't switch hosts quite so easily (long story) so we are keeping quiet as we prepare to switch.  

I try to let them know as soon as I see it...believe it, its a temporary thing.
