So I was attempting to post a comment on a front page post and I chose the option to login using my steam account as I abhor Facebook and the like and dont have accounts on them. Once I logged in using my steam account I get a OpenID page and it wants an email address and username which I supplied but when I submit it keeps saying email address required.

Hmnn, the Steam account login seems kind of whack, thought it worked better when I tested it. Anyway, it should work fine now. I updated the associated plugins.

You can also just create an account directly without any other kind of account to deal with.
