Hey guys, ever since the spoilers are fixed, I notice that the little "New" flag on threads with new posts sometimes just looks like text (see attached screenshot). This is on Mac OSX 10.5.5. and Firefox 3.0.4. Is anyone else seeing this?

I'll sometimes get text for stuff like smilies when things are loading slow, but they usually go away. I've never seen the New icon do that, but I bet it could be fun to mess with people who get that

Any idea on this? Does it with Safari on a Mac, and Chrome and Firefox on a PC. I actually another forum with the same problem, but I can't remember which one now.

Yep, getting the same problem. All 3 of my PC's won't load the image. I'm getting the red X placeholder in IE7 and just blank space in Firefox (like in Leo's image). Any ideas what the problem is?

I've not been able to replicate the issue...I'm using that same version of Firefox. Those that are using Firefox, are you also using a Mac?

Using Firefox, 3.05 I believe, on a PC the problem looks like the screen shot in the original post. On a PC in IE and Chrome where the icons are missing in the Firefox screen shot you get a Red X or broken picture icon. Safari on a Mac also gets the broken picture icon.

I should clarify, it's the "veryhot_post.gif" image that won't load on my browsers. I know Leo said it's the new post icon, but veryhot_post.gif is the one giving me the red X.

You're right. It's this link that does not load: http://www.gamingtrend.com/smf/Themes/default/images/topic/veryhot_post.gifgellar

Yep, I found the same thing this morning. I replaced that file - let's see what happens. (I know one thing that'll happen, it'll stop flooding my damned log file!) ehhehe Let me know if that resolves it for you.

Is there supposed to be an icon that lets you know which threads have new posts in them since the last time you visited them? If so, could somebody point it out to me? I'm not seeing one and it makes it really hard to know what's new and what I've already seen.

Seriously? Threads with new posts typically have this next to them: Pretty self-explanatory, no?

You'd think so, but somehow I never noticed that. I was looking for an icon of some sort or a change in color or something I suppose. My eyes passed right over the "new" without ever noticing it. In fact, even after you pointed it out I went back to look for it and still didn't notice it at first. Thanks!

I wasn't trying to be smarmy or condescending, but I couldn't tell if your question was in jest or serious. When browsing the main forum list, forums with new posts have a dark blue icon next to them (it's kind of greyed-out if you've already been in the forum and there aren't any new posts since then), and any threads in a specific forum with new posts will have that "new" icon I posted above. But there isn't a change in color, just the icon. I guess when you're desperate for distractions from work any identifying mark indicating a new post, no matter how minor or small, stands out like a beacon of hope that you'll find something far more interesting than cover sheets on your TPS reports. Or at least that's probably why I've never missed the "new" icon.

Also at the top of the page are two links: "Show unread posts since last visit." and "Show new replies to your posts."
When I don't have as much time to leisurely peruse, I use these to get the stuff that's of interest that's been recently active.

And don't forget that you can click directly on the little blue "new" icon to jump directly to the first new post since you last read that thread.

I had no idea. I need to go try that. Update: Holy shit, it worked! And, while browsing the general forum listing, if you click on the dark blue icon indicating new posts in that forum it also provides a list of just the threads with new posts. Apparently there's an entire sub-world of programming in the forums I was never aware of. I'm going to have to start clicking on random stuff to see what happens.
