#new at the end of tab titles

I routinely hit the "new" button on threads to go right to the good stuff.  Lately I've noticed that the tab name (IE 7, required for work) has been appending a "#new" to the end of thread titles on the tabs (at least, ones short enough to be fully displayed).

Is this something new or have I just missed it?  Final implementation, defect, "feature"?
