Hey everybody, I started an official twitter account for GT as part of getting ready to ramp up coverage of SXSWi next week. I hope y'all start following us! We are at twitter.com/gamingtrendHere's what you can expect to see in our tweet feed: microblogging coverage of events such as SXSW and E3 links to reviews and articles here on the site occasional musings from the staff, and more! As we start building this up I'll give you the lowdown on what #'s to look for on a regular basis. Enjoy!

Hmmm, weird why that happened. I know as the popularity of Twitter has grown, more and more spam accounts have popped up. Maybe their spam alerts are too sensitive. Either way, awesome you're on Twitter. I'll get your tweets sent via text to my phone pronto

Starting to tease some of the coverage we are going to try and get. Only on twitter will you get the play-by-play coverage at SXSWi. Full site coverage to follow. Let's just say things are going to get very active in a couple of days

Oh, man, it's threads like this that make me realize how "far behind the times" I really am. I've resisted Facebook and Twitter both - they just seemed too gimmicky at first - but because of that, I now find myself pretty ignorant regarding those sites. If GT is going all Twitter though, I'll have to figure it out. If I don't, I know you will all be talking about me behind my back!

Now there is an excellent example - I know so little about Twitter that I have no idea if that story is true, or an April Fool's Day joke. Also, you are correct, I'm a tad (or two) under 188 years old, lmao. I think... can't really remember.

Although I've no interest in posting to Twitter, it can be useful as far as tracking news on various things. And friends of mine have basically been forced, kicking and screaming initially, to use it for work, either to share stuff with the public, or to use as a sort of "intra organizational" communications tool. So, if you're forced to use it, a friend of mine who has to use it for her job provided the following tips for newbies: http://search.twitter.com/This is like a Google for Twitter. If you know the "Twitter number" but it isn't on a Web page per se, you can input it there to pull it up. You can search key words there for topics that interest you (or on the business side, to see if people are, uh, Tweeting about your stuff) * Note: Like Google, you may need to put quote marks around a search phrase to get better matches. "Gaming Trend" will pull up a short list and you can pick out the GT Twitter stuff, but not using quote marks will pull up a lot of unrelated junk. Also: http://www.twitip.com/10-easy-steps-for-twitter-beginners/Twitip has a lot of good info for beginners. To me, most of the general public is using Twitter to share random thoughts of little interest. But there are quite a few agencies and organizations using it to share mission critical stuff, and I've read about some police agencies using it as a way to get crime reports out to the public more quickly than other means. Like any communications tool, you can use it to share useful info or you can use it to share crap. One problem right now is it's far too easy for people to set up accounts with names that aren't their own. As a journalist I don't think I'd ever quote Twitter postings right now when there seems no way of verifying who's who (reminds me of when a fellow reporter a few years ago quote a bunch of "history" from Wikipedia, and virtually none of it turned out to be factual). I think that's all part of the growing pains the service is going through as it probably wasn't built from the ground up to be used the large-scale way it has (probably Facebook, Myspace et al have and continue to go through the same sort of radical growth and pain).

Shouldn't this be a link on the main page instead of yet another pinned item no one reads? GT could cut way back on the pinned stuff.
you mean like a section called Twitter Feed that lists all the twitter updates plus gives a link that say's 'follow us on twitter'?

Which is why I put it here, to clear up things in Off topic. Since these threads haven't been talked about in quite a while, I figured there was no harm done.
