It is requiring a login every time I hit the forum, but i just discovered that if I click into a sub-forum, I'm still logged in (Firefox).
Sounds like an odd cookies issue. Can you clear cookies and cache and let me know if that persists? I changed the cookie character string when I moved the forum. Didn't fix it. Probably the laptop I'm using. no big deal.

The Gaming Trend logo on the forum doesn't seem to want to cache. Every time I go back it decides to reload, and since there doesn't seem to be any (correct at least) size info for it, the page layout makes a sudden jump that often makes me miss the link I'm attempting to click. This never happened before the update, and it's very annoying.

I'm curious... have we lost the warning we would get when someone replied to a thread you were replying to, one you hadn't seen yet? The warning would come when you did a preview. I'm pretty sure I was just in that situation and it didn't appear.

I know you can turn that off. Look under Profile/Look & Layout Preferences and see if the box 'Don't warn on new replies made while posting.' is checked. if so uncheck it.

Nobody else has mentioned this problem so far, yet I've seen it on several different PCs every time I go back from a page to another. It's extremely annoying. Am I really alone at being bothered by this?

Hoping this message will post. The last 3 I've tried have all given me an error message:
Database Error: MySQL server has gone away File: /home/gtroot/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs.php Line: 2998
EDIT: Looks like this one posted. Wonder if this error has something to do with posting something with an IMG tag.

Ever since the change, when I click view unread topics, it shows no threads and this message: No unread topics found since your last visit. Click here to try all unread topics.
If I click the second part of the sentence, it pops up 23 pages of threads. Every time now. Any thoughts?
That's odd - I'll keep hammering on that. Any progress on this? Still happens to me about 80% of the time I click "view unread topics". And in the 20% of the time it actually does work, it will occasionally only show me two or three threads, even though it's been hours since I last visited.

I'm still working on it, but man....it's illusive. Not to worry, I'm still trying.

It actually looks like a SMF product change/ feature/ plugin. When we used to hit "show unread posts" it would show ALL unread instead of just recent unread (these are two different values). The recent unread means the server doesn't have the overload of having every user hitting the archive of all posts from all time, and instead filters based on time. I haven't investigated much, but it looks like the link "Show unread posts since last visit." points to http://gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php?action=unread whereas when you get the "all unread messages" link when there are no recent unread, it appends a ";all" to it. http://gamingtrend.com/forums/index.php?action=unread;allHere are some tactical solutions: - Leave it as it is.
Pros : No change in server performance based on the past couple months. No additional work to do. Cons : user education needs to be raised to understand that if they clear their "recent unread" then they will be provided the "all unread" link by the system, OR they can bookmark ;all and use it as they see fit.
- Investigate feature source and toggle it off (same as option 2)
Pros : No change for users or front-end experience. Cons : Performance gains from that feature are lost, possibly others depending on deploy bundle and whether there are numerous features all with a single switch.
- Add the ";all" to the provided link at the top
Pros : this will eliminate the odd behaviour where some people cannot see recent posts. Cons : this could significantly impact server performance.
- Change the existing links to better indicate results.
Pros: It allows people to continue to use the same link as default, but also if they want to go review their older unread posts. Cons: It requires modifying the code, and can still impact performance.
NOTE: This issue has been present since the upgrade (first time I noticed it). Basically, the baseline for server performance since the upgrade till now had this performance benefit and could impact the overall site performance. I prefer option 4 as a tactical solution - the change is minor, and is obvious to everyone. As for a strategic vs. tactical solution, I have no idea what you guys are looking at to try and integrate the forum into the site, but this should be on the list of things to address. I hope this helps, Ron.

This is us getting hammered with traffic. It usually recovers pretty quickly, but that's what that error indicates - SQL got overloaded.

Tried off and on throughout the day and then again from home: 5 browsers, 2 machines, no luck. This morning I'm getting a new error (or just two at once): Database Error: MySQL server has gone away File: /home/gtroot/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs.php Line: 2490Database Error: MySQL server has gone away File: /home/gtroot/public_html/forums/Sources/Load.php Line: 2026 I got something through at one point but half my post was missing so I deleted it. Also- 'Facebook?'
I assumed from the other thread that facebook is why we're getting more traffic and causing these errors. Edit: Obviously replying has no issues.

I've been getting the same error all weekend.
Database Error: MySQL server has gone away File: /home/gtroot/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs.php Line: 2490
So I'm wondering if it's my account. I've tried 4 different computers, two windows, two mac, in the following configurations:
Windows: FF 3.6 FF 6 Opera 10.1 IE8 IE9 Chrome 14.0.835.157
Mac: FF 6 Safari (whatever the latest is) Opera 10.1
So I'm at a loss as to why I can reply all day long but not create new posts, beyond the obvious that I'm losing the connection to mySQL.
Edit: I've tried from two different networks as well, work and home.
