I am very interested in what our users think the forums should look like (in numbers of forum sections, etc. not the "look" of the forums as there will be choices in the future for the users to choose from), be named, what kinds of forums should be added (or eliminated), etc.  Also like to know why you think that would be a good idea.

Consider this a brainstorming thread that you can get your ideas out there so that I and the rest of the Console Gold Staff and Moderators can see things we may not have seen before.

Thanks for your ideas, they will be taken into account.

Is there a way to emulate the GG feature that lists the most recent post/topic before entering a room?  I see that with Last Post it's done by poster and time, but I like how GG lists the topic as well.

I still want that general chat forum! smile And I think "Console" should be eliminated from Road to Gold and the trading forum.

Otherwise, it looks great.

But I do have a small problem... for some reason the board wouldn't keep me logged in. Every time I leave the forum and come back, I have to login again.

I can change the persistence of the cookie...I'll look into it.

Edit: Cookie persistence set to 2 hours.  Just visit more often. slywink

As for the general chat forum, we'll debate that and have a decision made in the next day.

2 hours?  Must be my firefox storing my name/password then because I haven't had to log in for the past couple days now.

I like the way the topics are setup now but I wonder if it's overkill...and it is a pain to go through multiple topics for multi-platform games.  I almost wonder if it wouldn't be easier to have them broken into classic system, current system, handheld system and upcoming systems instead of having them broken down into Sony, Microsoft, etc.

It would also be nice if the FAQ was updated with some board specific information instead of the generic phpBB sections.  Things like is it ok to post prices or how many posts gets you upgraded past newbie, future tags, etc.

Well, I see that somebody has already upgraded to "Console Gold Reader"

I'll be working on the things like that FAQ in the very near future...just takes time. smile

As for the avatars, I want to implement a hack that allows individuals to turn them off before I let you little hellians start using em. smile

I highly reccomend you make a more obvious link that goes back to the forum's home page. I keep accidentally clicking that cool logo and going back to the sites main page.

See up there to the right where it says console gold? Make that a link that goes directly back to the forums or something. Make my life easier, please smile

Ahh, sig-pictures. Watch me grab my 1meg picture file full of flashy animation that'll give people seizures.

Now granted, I don't - in fact - have one yet, but I'll get one when the time comes. Oh yes, I will get one.

Well, unless something has changed recently anyway, clicking on the words 'ConsoleGold Forum Index' underneath that cool logo takes you back to the main forum index.

And as far as images go - I think the 'Img' tag works, as long as you're willing to pay your own bandwith for wherever the image links off to. Just watch the seizure inducing ones, okay? Us staff members need to work you know. smile

Looks like there just isn't enough traffic yet to justify splitting the forums into their individual pieces.  Watch closely grasshoppers...the winds of change are blowing.

Actually, I kind of enjoy things the way they are. The one complain I did originally have was the CG image at the top not linking back to the homepage. Since that's fixed, it's all gravy from here.

I really appreciate how responsive you guys are.  I'm perfectly happy routing all my Xbox banter over here and it's nice to know that you all are willing to play around with the site a little instead of imposing a predesigned scheme.  In short: love the new forums, esp. the sports room. :!:

Nice.  I like having all the games under one heading. smile

Thanks guys!

If I had to nitpick (just to find something) over anything, I'd have a separate forum for non-game related console stuff.  So, under GCG would be game only discussions while under the second forum would go things about console news, favorite games, which controller, etc, and so forth.  I guess I got used to GG's separate General PC and PC Gaming by Title.

Yeah, I do like everything combined.  It makes the general console gaming area look much more populated and should get it some more attention.

Also, any way to have the goto page links at the top as well as the bottom?

This forum will become a spamfest.

Will you be allowing avatars? I know this type of forum does, but I can't. Do I need to reach a certain "level", or is this something you haven't ruled on yet?

NBD, but I was wondering.

And I'd like to second the request for thumbs up/down icons.

Hey Ron.

Can we get a freakin' icon at the top to load the main page of consolegold? It's like we're at the hotel california. We can check out anytime we like, but we can never leave.

And no, I don't feel like using my back button 100 times, or typing the address again.

Oh, and a News Post section would be cool, so that each article going up spawns a discussion in their own section. I'd give the archive a bump up so it doesn't flood the server. biggrin

Speaking of that logo, it would make sense to size it down just a bit, so that the bottom of it didn't extend beyond the bottom of the text to the right, that says Profile, You have no new messages, Log In, etc...  It's prominent because of its color, and still will be even if it's a little smaller.

Just a random thought.

ROFL -- Actually i think Ron's eventual plan is to have the logo several screens tall later this year. So it'll take you 4 page views before you can see any of the threads.

Now that''ll be some pretty awesome brand recognition.

LOL

Try it; it routes to the top level of the forum, NOT to the front page of the site itself. I want to be able to get back to the news etc.

It depends on what style you have set in your Profile.

On "subSilver" the logo takes you back to the main Console Gold page, while it takes you back to the main forum page when using the "Cobalt 2.0" style.

I only saw it because I was told about it.

I actually prefer the logo taking me back to the main page, but that is because I post news and go to it a lot more than the average user.  I use the links at the top and bottom of each page to navigate the forums.  They seem simple enough to find.  I also have a link to the forum on my link bar, while none for the main page.  So the logo is the only way, other than typing the URL, I can get to the main page. Cool

Funny, I can't get used to Cobalt.  I tried!  I think they are still tweaking some of the graphics (like the text background).  I really missed the logo taking me to the main page!  I was begging for a link to the main page to be placed somewhere if the main logo was going to take me to the forum home.

Let me further clear this up-

Cobalt is a prototype/ work-in-progress.  use at your own risk.  Eventually, I will finish it, and it still won't be cobalt, it'll be something else entirely.

nothing to see here.  carry on.

Are you guys planning on installing the phpBB patches for the forum?  There were several important security patches since 2.0.6.
