A small request for everyone

A few things to keep in mind, please:

1.) GT is run by volunteers and exclusively out of my pocket, supported by ads and the occasional donation.  
2.) We are always looking for new ways to attract new readers, be it in the forums or on the front page.  
3.) We listen to everything the community has to say.  

Just try to be respectful as we try out new things to improve our community.  Immediately saying you'll just quit reading here is hurtful at best, but every time we make even the most minute of changes I see exactly that.  If you don't like something, tell us in so in a constructive fashion and be specific about what you don't like about it.  If you don't allow for change this place will wither and die.

I thought the link embeds were fun, and was only joking that having automatic pull quotes eliminated my own pull-quote fun and thus my reason for existence. 

I do wonder if maybe there's some way to have a parallel "beta forum" (or even a single "test category" here where we can try new features) where the GT guys can try out funky UI changes to their heart's content and invite people over to try them "before they go Live." I'm no SMF expert though; perhaps that's not possible, or just too time consuming to do. 'tis my attempt at a constructive suggestion.

We are going away from SMF very soon, and yes there will be a beta forum for what is coming...

Even though I said that the quote text hyperlink is must-have for me, I'm certainly not going to take my ball and leave if it doesn't come back.  It'll just take some getting used to not having it around.

Exciting as well as scary...   The other, smaller board I hang out at moved to SMF some years ago, and I remember thinking, "Wait, this looks like the GT forums now!"   That other one isn't as customized as GT though, and particularly lacks all our amusing smiley options, and the useful Spoiler Code button.

I wonder what we're moving to. Suspense is good.   I used to be up on message board scripts a zillion years ago.

Well, I think the thing to realize is that not all of the things that are on this board have an analogue on the new one we are building (the custom smiley list may not survive, for instance). However, the new features the new forum will afford us should more than make up for it.

The custom smileys would be super duper awesome to keep, even if it were only a few. I love them and think they're nifty, but I don't love or hold as high an opinion of niftyness about custom smileys as I do about Gaming Trend, Knightshade Dragon, and all the immense amount of time and money and sweat and other things similar but not limited to time and money and sweat he and his crew put into it. If there's one thing I want, it's more opportunities to tell Knightshade he's awesome and he has beautiful facial features. If there's two, the second is that I'd love to keep at least a few of the custom smileys if it were possible.

*Actually, many of these animated ones are very cool but hardly ever used. So I'd understand not carrying a bunch over.
