MO asked for it.  The AP suggests Rock Band 2.  What's your top of the aughts?

Mine may be a bit trite.  I have to go with Shadow of the Colossus.  I enjoyed the whole game.  I loved the atmosphere.  Many moments from the game have stuck with me through the years.  There were a few annoying parts, but they were overwhelmed by the fun and adventure.

I haven't even played either, but I'd tip my cap to Bejeweled and World of Warcraft, with HMs going to Guitar Hero and Wii Sports.

I hope Sony follows the GoW collection and releases this and Ico on a BR when The Last Guardian comes out.  I never played these games and would love to.

Metal Gear Solid 3.

My other favorites in random order:

God of War 2
Resident Evil 4 (Wii)
Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time
Final Fantasy XII
Mass Effect
Uncharted  2 (might be too new but Uncharted 1 could easily fill this spot)
Half Life 2
Neverwinter Nights (mainly for the Shadowlords/Dreamcatcher modules)

i guess i really should play Shadow of the Colossus,i bought it about 6 months ago and still haven't played it

Fallout 3 has been one of my favourite games for a long time,i loved everything about it,and still get impressed when i replay it and i stick my head out of that Vault for the first time to see the remains of D.C around me,the detail to the world is immense

Star Wars Battlefront will always be my most favourite online game(fingers crossed for tonight...pffft disgust)

BUT...i have to say Final Fantasy IX is the best of the decade for me,a release way back in 2000/2001,what a great game,4 discs of perfection, great story, great characters and setting ...and it was actually the first FF game i ever finished at the time

Dragon Quest VIII. I'm not sure I can articulate what I found so compelling about it, except to say that it's the only game I've ever played for 90+ hours and still wanted more after it was over. The battle system, art design, voice overs, everything, perfect in my book.

Other favorites in this decade:

Deus Ex
Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Uncharted: Drake's Fortune
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory
Fire Emblem (GBA)
Sly Cooper and the Thievius Racoonus

For me it would be a 3-way tie between Resident Evil 4, Halo and Metroid Prime. All 3 are so close for me I really couldn't chose 1 over the other. Rounding out my top 10 would be:

4.  Legend of Zelda - Wind Waker
5.  Mass Effect
6.  Star Wars KotOR
7.  SC Chaos Theory
8.  Final Fantasy XII
9.  Neverwinter Nights
10. Dragon Age Origins

Yikes! How'd I'd miss that one from my top 10 list!?  icon_redface  It was probably because I was got caught up on thinking I couldn't include Super Mario 64.

I can't really decide between Half Life 2 (including Counterstrike Source of course), ESPN Football (2k5), World of Warcraft (which I only played for 30 days due to the time sync/addiction that it is but is still in my top 5 favorite games of all time).

Oh well, glad I'm under no obligation to decide.

Plus, Batman AA and Modern Warfare 2 are both creeping into my top for the decade as well.

I'd probably have to go with Final Fantasy Tactics:  War of the Lions as my Game of the Decade.  It is the completely perfect package of gameplay, story, characters, music, combat system, setting, graphics...everything just fit together perfectly to create a masterpiece.  And since it's technically within a decade through midnight tonight (released Dec 12, 1999), I'll also throw in Planescape: Torment as #1a.  I don't think it's possible for a video game to ever tell a better story than that one.

So many to choose from, but honorable mentions would go to:
-  Final Fantasy X & XII
-  Diablo II
-  Thief 2
-  Beyond Good & Evil
-  Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
-  Shadow Hearts Covenant
-  Xenosaga
-  Baldur's Gate II

A lot of great games spring to mind (KOTOR, WoW, COD4, RE4), but the one that I keep coming back to would be Half Life 2.

1st place: World of Warcraft +Expansion(s) ---Ico goes here too---

2nd place: Diablo 2 +Expansion(s)

3rd place: Final Fantasy 12

4th place: Warcraft 3 +Expansion(s)

There are many others but those four (five) up top are the cream of the crop.

All my typical choices were mentioned: Baldur's Gate II, Dragon Quest VIII, Final Fantasy XII.  I definitely love RPG's but for my game of the decade I have to go with Rock Band 2.

Which is crazy because I resisted getting a "plastic instrument game" for so long but there's something so compelling about drumming on Rock Band 2 that creates an itch I never knew I had.  Since we picked it up early last summer I've been obsessed with drumming.  I started on Easy and have now progressed to some songs on Expert.  I find myself tapping out rhythms without realizing it.  My wife will giggle and say "Do you realize you're drumming again?"  I don't realize it, it's just something I do now.  I listen to songs and I'm trying to figure out the beat.  It's crazy and I'm a bit embarrassed by my love for this game.

Other games I've loved but I can't think of a game that's crept into my day-to-day life the way Rock Band 2 has.

My game of the decade is my single favorite game played after "growing up": Thief 2 - The Metal Age.

Honorable mentions to Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness. I played a lot of other superb games, but those 3 jump out off the top of my head.

Seeing as the Anno Domini calendar has no year zero, this decade would be 2001-2010.  Technically, 2000 is not this decade.

However, if we are defining 2000-2009 as 'this decade', Diablo 2 without question.  It and it's predecessor revived the roguelike genre, for which I can never give enough thanks.

Honorable mentions:
Half-Life 2
SMT: Persona 3
SMT: Persona 4
SMT:Digital Devil Saga 1 & 2
Disgaea 2
Morrowind
Disciples 2

If 2000 isn't a part of this decade, that would suck (for this thread at least) as it would rule out Baldur's Gate 2, Diablo 2, Icewind Dale, Thief II: The Metal Age and The Longest Journey; five of my favorite games of all time.

I so want to list Dragon Age: Origins as my #1 pick, but I realize I'm completely biased since I'm playing it right now for the second time and still firmly engrossed in that world.

Fallout 3 is another great contender- I've finished it 3 times, and have two 'unfinished' (as far as the main quest is concerned) evil playthroughs that were played until I reached my own personal goals and I still know that I haven't done and seen all that this game can offer.

Then I keep thinking I have to pick that one perfect game.  Perfect length, perfect puzzles, perfect storytelling, perfect pacing- plus there's cake afterwards.  Portal.  Every once in a while I still feel compelled to start this one up and play it from start to finish in one sitting.

Ultimately I think I'll cop out and just say Portal and Fallout 3 (Tie)

I'm gonna go with a MP game, Battlefield 1942. This was my MP
game with it's expansions and mods that I played for a year straight.
BF2 is a close second. Honorable mentions to Baldurs Gate 2, Diablo 2,
and HL 2.

On the PC it is easily Baldur's Gate II. In fact, that would be my winner overall.

On the console I'll have to go with Final Fantasy X or Shadow Hearts Covenant.
