Unreal/Unreal Tournament/Deus Ex
I'm a sucker for .mod style music. Also:
Starcraft Max Payne 2 Interstate 76 Jet Set Radio Halo
While the last 2 aren't PC games (well, I guess Halo is... kinda), they're the only two games where I went out and bought the soundtracks.

I am particular to the changing tempo and real heart pouding changes in both Dune2 and Total Annihilation. During an all out attack where one person is winning in any multiplayer game nowadays at a LAN, it is still rather common to hear someone start "nah na na na NAH na na na NAH..." the TA attack orchestral piece.
Dungeon Siege 1 had some good background immersion pieces as well.
Hrm, and the first time I heard Doom E1M1 on a Wave sound card still brings back memories.

You people anger me for forgetting Mechwarrior 2. I have a 'custom cd'. It includes tracks from Mechwarrior 2, Total Annihilation, and Missionforce: Cyberstorm. I call it Gods of War. Even though I didn't mention MW2 (it had already been mentioned when I posted) I give it props. Interesting bit of trivia: There are 2 sets of music for MW2. The original CD and the repack version in the Titanium 'set' have different music. Some of the tracks are the same, in different order, but some are totally different.

I am glad someone brought up Ascendancy. Every time we have one of these threads, its gets mentioned but have we ever found a way to get it? I used to own it, I will have to look and see what I can find.
Along with Ascendancy, I will go with
Morrowind Guild Wars (Best Jeremy Soule yet) Mech 2 Myth I&II Homeworld
As my favorites. Damn fine music in its own right.

I have a copy of it somewhere, too, but finding it would take years. I do know you can DL it from a couple abandonware sites, but a quick Google search turned up a couple copies at Amazon costing a range of $10 - $50. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/stores/offering/list/-/B000696MTI/all/ref=dp_pb_a/103-0096609-3506215?s=videogames

Ebay is already winding it on its way to me. I just hope to be able to get the music out of whatever form they put it in.

What has risen may sink, and what has sunk may rise. Loathsomeness waits and dreams in the deep, and decay spreads over the tottering cities of men.
Sooo... any new games (since late 2005!) which have memorable music? Bastion comes to mind, as does Halo ODST and Halo Reach. Ooh, and Age of Conan as well.

Holy thread necro... Nier has one of my absolute favorite soundtracks. I also really enjoyed the music from God of War 3 and El Shaddai: Ascent of the Metatron.
