I've just made a playlist of my top 6 favorite pieces of music from PC games. I've limited myself to picking one track from each game. So far I have...

Baba Yetu - Civilization IV
Forever - Rome Total War
Morrowind - Morrowind
Fortress of Regrets - Planescape: Torment
Track 9 - Heroes of Might and Magic II
N. D. Nile - Age of Mythology

Anyone want to mention their favorites? Maybe remind me of some classics that I've missed?

Thanks and Good Listening!

I always loved the music in the first Gabriel Knight game.  Especially the title track.

That main menu music from Civ4 = AWESOME.  Thank you for making it a .mp3 so I can put it in winamp biggrin

Unreal Tournament 2004 has some great music.  Playing on Hyperblast, I think it is?  Anyway, I think it's a remix from UT99.  The convoy level has some fantastic music as well - mixing electronica with orchestral.

Hey Missinglink... you'll never guess what they're singing there in Swahili (Baba Yetu from Civ 4), and it is indeed a magnificent piece of music.

If you want to know what they're singing:
Spoiler for Hiden:
"Baba Yetu" = Our Father. Yep they're singing the Our Father prayer in Swahili

Agreed with RTW and Civ4, they are great.

I also like the soundtrack from:
- MechWarrior 2
- Command & Conquer
- Diablo I town music (this one is not necessarily great but it's etched in my mind from hearing it way too often).
- Medieval: TW

Other than those mentioned, Betrayal At Krondor (the first time I heard CD-quality music) and Total Annihilation stand out in my mind.

See above.  Homeworld is a GREAT call !

I'd probably rank my top 3 in this order though:
1) Homm II
2) Homeworld
3) Age of Wonders series and certain songs from Fantasy General

Anything by Jeremy Soule. I'm a huge fan of the Total Annihilation tracks.

Outcast has some nice music, too.

Baldur's Gate and Total Annihiliation are good choices.  I really liked the Dungeon Siege stuff too, not great as stand-alone, but within the game was awesome.  What about Deus Ex? I really like the main menu track in particular.

Yup.

The Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall.

I really felt I was a lone knight riding my horse on a cold winter morning, and it was mostly due to the music I think.

I'm not sure if it was just the music but I know exactly what you mean.  People throw around the word "immersion" too lightly nowadays; now DF was a game that truly excelled in it.

I much prefer console game music (Mitsuda & Uematsu for teh win), but PC games certainly have some great music.

-  Any of the HOMM games
-  Pretty much anything by Jeremy Soule
-  The opening theme from Civ IV is fantastic, but I'm not crazy about the rest of it.
-  Beyond Good & Evil (multiplatform, but still...)
-  the Diablo games (Odd story about Diablo music:  I'd never listed to Bauhaus before, but in reading a review of the first Diablo, the reviewer mentioned how much the music sounded like them.  I loved the Diablo music, so I picked up a Bauhaus CD and have been a huge fan ever since.  So, Diablo is directly responsible for my Bauhaus collection.  Thanks!)
-  and who can forget the classic Darkstone song!  'When the Darkstone shines...'  slywink  Actually, the rest of that soundtrack is pretty good.

Haven't listened to it in ages, but I remember liking The 7th Guest's music.  Heck, most everything "The Fat Man" did was pretty darn slick.

Yes, 7th Guest was GREAT music.  Especially if you put CD 2 in a regular CD player and listen to track 2.  Some great stuff there.

Red Alert rocked, especially Hell March.

And yeah, anything by The Fat Man kicks major ass.

Apparently the game didn't do well because the AI sucked.  However at the time I was only familiar with MOO and not very good at it either so it was just the right level of diffculty for me.

My favorites:

Baldur's Gate I/II
Icewind Dale
Daggerfall
Morrowind
Divine Divinity
Spellforce (especially that "Elves and Angels" song)
HOMM 2 & 3
The opening to Battlefield 1942
Jedi Knight II/Jedi Academy
Master of Magic (I loved its exploration music in particular)
The themes from Diablo 2's expansion pack

The Age of Wonders games had some good background music, but there wasn't enough of it to keep it from being repetitive.
