I think this is the first time in years I haven't played many games that weren't from this year.
The only old game I've gotten into this year is Aliens Vs. Predator 2, which while a great game, I would hesitate to call "classic" just yet.

Lots of good stuff frome me:
Final Fantasy 6 (still holds up incredibly well) Chrono Trigger Final Fantasy 8 Star Ocean 1 Final Fantasy 4 Vagrant Story Ace Combat 04 Zone of the Enders 2 (only a year and a half old but horribly overlooked) Metal Gear Solid GBC (aka Ghost Babel)
I had a Genesis vice SNES so I missed out on some great classics. Thankfully a lot of great SNES classics have made their way to GBA. I also got around to purchasing a used SNES this year as well as discovered how much improved playing some of these games are with emulators.

Classics? This year is the Year of Mega Man for me. I've played, and beaten, Mega Man X2-X5, and the classic series Mega Man 1-7. I am now playing part 8. I've also played and beaten Final Fantasy 5 and 6 earlier in the year. Not to mention Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island, Secret of Mana and to speak of more recent games, Onimusha and Onimusha 2.

This year, I made it a point to track down most of the PS1 RPG's that I missed the first time around. I played: - Vandal Hearts 1 & 2 - Valkyrie Profile - Star Ocean 2 - Vagrant Story - Legend of Mana - Final Fantasy Anthology (? The one with Chrono trigger) - Xenogears - Dragon Warrior VII I also caught up on some PC classics thanks to the PIFF thread. - Grim Fandango - System Shock 2 - Fallout 2 - Dungeon Keeper 2 Probably the only game I played this year that is destined to be a classic is Beyond Good & Evil. Too bad we'll never see a sequel.

Well, I got a PS2 in June, so I finally got the play some of the classics on the system - Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy X, Devil May Cry, Gran Turismo, Onimusha, Tekken Tag, Soul Calibur 2, Mortal Kombat Deadly Alliance (much, much better than Deception) plus some of the new games I'd consider classics - MGS3, for example.

Broken sword 1 & 2. Wanted to try them after playing the third. Great adventure games, can't believe I missed them when they got out since I always have loved that type of game.
