The classic will be reimagined (i.e. will have more than one level). They say if you like Star Fox or Panzer Dragoon, then Yar's Revenge is also a game. There's a teaser trailer and everything.

What a bizarre game to re-imagine. I was hoping that the trailer would let me see how they could take a simple concept like Yar's Revenge and make a totally new game out of it, but the trailer...it does nothing.

Its simple. Take the original concept, dress everything up in anime, and have the main character be a heroine with a checkered past. Oh and boobies and fan service.

Wow, that really is a weird game to drag out of the past. Although I was plenty surprised to see Thexder resurface this year as well, since I didn't think it was really that popular to begin with.

Thing is, the name is unique enough and it has brand recognition. Since the old game was so... generic (not for its time, mind you - it was a lot of fun IIRC), that the remake could be entirely different (I'm looking at you, Bionic Commando).

But, eh, how...what?
This makes about as much sense as taking Wing Commander and turning it into a shitty XBLA above-camera multiplayer shooter. Oh, wait they did that already.
Having played the original game a few decades back, this 'remake' makes absolutely no sense.

Apparently they've done several: http://www.mobygames.com/game-group/et-the-extra-terrestrial-licensees(though I still contend 2600 E.T. wasn't *that* bad. It's crime was being a high-profile title that was mediocre and rushed for Christmas, magnified by it's timing alongside the videogame crash and of course the whole "buried in a landfill" story)

Such an absolutely awesome commercial. I love how they can show the complete entirety of gameplay for three different games in 2 minutes.

Hey, it occurred to me watching the video that a) this looks like a twin stick shooter and 2) twin stick shooters could really work with Kinect.

Well, this got released today on XBLA.
It's more Panzer Dragoon than a twin-stick shooter.
I played through the demo, and it's okay, at it's most basic level, I guess. You can move where you want and move the cursor where you want. Dodging works, too.
However, it's kind of a mess for the other stuff. For example, the tutorial tells you that you can hit A to use your shields, but you won't be able to shoot. I kept hitting A and kept getting hit by enemies. The tutorial also tells you that you can pick up shield boosts and gain health when you use your shields. I picked one up and it went to the Y-Button slot. I hit Y. I'm not sure what it did.
The weapons don't do as much damage as they should, IMO (though I kept forgetting about the rail gun - that might have helped with ground troops). There's no mention of an ammo count for missiles, but there is one. I couldn't find the ammo counter on screen (though I'm sure it's there somewhere). Not sure if the railgun needs a recharge or what.
The graphics are decent, but not great. However, when you're zooming around (on rails), enemies in the background are of two varieties: ground and air. The ground troops come toward you as the terrain does, but the flying guys hover in place, even as you move forward. It's mildly off-putting.
Anyway, I'll be interested to hear other opinions, because I kept getting the feeling that I was missing something. That I just wasn't getting the game. Maybe if it clicks, it's much better. I didn't have a ton of fun with it, though.
