Just FYI, XBox Live is currently down.

Can't find a reason why anywhere, either.

I was going to wager a guess on preparations for the new fall update, but that isn't for another week or so.  Outside of that I've got nothin'.

They always announce when they are going to do something like this.  This would be an unintended outage.

Despite MS's assurances that XBL has been made bullet proof since last fall, I expect intermittent connection problems all week. At least until the GoW2 and CoD5 get online rush has subsided a bit. Hey who knows, maybe we'll get another free XBLA game because of it. slywink

I also had no problems with XBL yesterday, but I have noticed - for a few weeks now - people signing in several times in a row.  I've been disconnected several times in that same time period, as well, though not for the last few days.

IMO, something is afoot, which may not bode well for Nov. 19... sigh...   icon_frown

Sometimes that is just someone downloading an update to a game - I haven't had any recent troubles. Looking forward to NXE, although yeah, if my experience working for a software company has taught me anything, there's likely to be some trouble up front. Hopefully the people who got in early are weeding out any issues.

I got a disconnect last night when I attempted to download the COD:W@W patch, worked fine on the 2nd attempt though. I've noticed my profile logins are taking longer this week and the download of the L4D demo was very slow. Other than that though, to my surprise Live has been quite smooth.

Someone is going to die.  Probably by my hand.  Probably the stupid fucker responsible for the stupid fucking 'NXE'.

If I cared a rat's ass about playing with some stupid fucking dolls (avatars), I would turn on my damn Wii.  I don't so I don't.  18 goddam months of Live with no problems to speak makes a reasonable expectation of turning on my 360 tonight with no connection issues.  Instead, random disconnects all goddam night, culminating in being booted..as the fucking "Victory" screen shows on a Sabotage gamn in which I went 16 and 21...with a single shot rifle...on Courtyard.*

F@&^!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are posts both on gamefaqs and xbox board right now about the freaking disconnects.  This is just bullshit.  Nothing changed on my end, so the problem is on their end.  The only thing that readily makes itself clear is the dumb pre-planning for an unnecessary lame ripoff of a dumb social networking concept.

*No, I don't care that harkonis would have put up a 73-0 against the terrible players I was playing against.  It was a great job for me (understand, In a year I had a grand total of 5 sniper kills in COD4, and maybe a dozen kills between the m14 and the g3).

100% guarantee of that, unfortunately.  All gamers should be queuing up Sp games to play the week of Christmas because XBOX Live will be 100% FUBAR for 4-10 days starting on Christmas Eve

Do you not remember last Christmas time when the same exact thing happened for like a month and we got a free XBLA game out of it?  I am thinking this has nothing to do with NXE and everything to do with all the massive gamess that came out at once.

We had two 360's going last night, and were disconnected too often to count - both at the same time, every single time.  When I was able to sign back on, there were no Friends on (out of 60-something.) A friend from across town called us to see if we were having problems, because he'd been disconned, over and over, as well.  My laptop and another laptop and a PC had no connection problems.   disgust

The posts here, and Dreamshadows link, make me feel a little better, if only to let me know it's not my house or connection or the 360's.   icon_confused

Looks like Major Nelson has acknowledged that there are issues. As a mere Silver member who doesn't play multiplayer games online and isn't even really affected by this, I think this is pretty bad. It's one thing for your network to not be able to handle the load of lots of players, but when you are making those players pay to play online, you better damn well keep the network up and running.

See, I both get and don't get this argument.  I do from the pay perspective and that cable companies etc often reimburse for their time.

I don't get it from the perspective that for less than $40.00 a year we expect flawless service 100% of the time. It's just not reasonable.  Their offering is so far beyond any of their competition's why shouldn't they charge a nominal fee to offset usage.

People who complain about paying for XBL (not saying you are) are barking up the wrong tree as it were IMO.

XBOX Live is a monopoly, you either use it or can't play online at all. And like all monopoly, they don't have the pressure to improve the service. You can't just quit XBOX Live and join a competing service if you want to play XBOX 360 games online.

For less than $40, we should expect near flawless service since it is just a matchmaking service. On PC platform where there is no monopoly, we have alternative to Live which are totally free.
