I figured since Project Natal has an official name now, we should have a new thread to discuss it under.

Here are the first details of the XBOX Kinect and a sampling of some of the titles for it:

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/gaming/2010-06-14-vidgame14_ST_N.htm

Let the rumors continue!

http://www.vg247.com/2010/06/14/rumor-kinect-to-have-two-versions-most-expensive-cost-189-00/#more-100204

- 2 versions of Kinect, with the more expensive version at $189.

Wow.  I don't think this could be more dead in the water even if they had Roy Scheider blow it up with a  scuba tank and gun (please, no Mythbusters references).  $190 peripheral?  That's almost as much as the console.  I know that's the more expensive version, but still.  Two versions is also incredibly stupid (if true).  Both versions have to have all the same features and abilities so companies can make games for them.  So, I'm not entirely sure what features the better one could have that would make it worth the extra cash (motion tracking?).

Don't trust anything your hear from vg247, they'll post anything, and often will just make stuff up.

Sadly, the USA today article was taken down.

I don't see how there could be two versions of natal, consoles are all about keeping the user base together. There's no real functionality in natal that they could remove to make it cheaper without fracturing the user base.

I have to agree that it doesn't sound right.  I'm likely one of the few people interested in the new stuff.  $189?  I'd be totally out.  Still, a corporation doing something stupid?  Seems to be a pretty common event.

You forget this was the company that splintered their user base with a hard drive version of the console and one without.  Not saying it's true (and I hope it isn't), but they've certainly done it before.

What happens if the $189 version (if it exists) is bundled with the console itself?  That doesn't seem to out there to be possible.

If that list is true... *snores*

Such a stupid release list. It's nothing more than a blatant rip of the Wii staples with 100% pure crapsville.

Wow, USA Today took down the article?  They'll probably put it back up once this event is over.

Here is an excerpt from that article:

Quote
Among games in the works:

•Kinectimals lets you train and play with 20 different virtual cats, including a lion, cheetah and tiger.

•Joyride, a racing game, lets players use their hands to hold an imaginary steering wheel — pull your hands toward you and push back out for an acceleration boost — and their bodies to execute jumps and tricks.

•Kinect Sports has six activities including boxing, bowling, beach volleyball, track and field, soccer and table tennis. To serve a volleyball, you mimic the real motion; in soccer, you can kick the ball or do a header.

•Kinect Adventures includes a river-raft time trial and obstacle course, playable by up to four players. On the raft, playing as a duo, you and a partner must lean one way or another to steer. Jumping helps the raft reach special areas for extra points.

•Dance Central, in development by MTV Games, brings a So You Think You Can Dance experience home.

•Star Wars characters and iconic Disney favorites will be featured in separate new games being developed at Microsoft in conjunction with LucasArts and Disney.

EDIT:

Oops, didn't see that link above to Kotaku had this list.  This is the list that was on USA Today's article.  I'm sure the article will go back up in a couple of hours. smile

I hope the move and kinect coverage is minimal at E3.  At this point I have no desire to purchase either.

On the flip side, while Microsoft and Sony play catchup with the Wii, Nintendo will be showing off the next generation of what everybody will want to buy - portable 3D gameplay.

I seriously can't wait to see the 3DS!  I've been picturing in my head how it will work since the day it was announced.  It is my most anticipated thing at E3 hands down.  I'm really hoping for Mario Kart 3D!  To get back on topic, the Star Wars game on Kinect sounds somewhat entertaining:
Quote from: engadget
* The Star Wars game was pretty badass-looking -- you play a Jedi, rushing down stormtroopers and deflecting laser bolts left and right, wielding a few Force powers, and confronting a certain deep-voiced Sith Lord for a one-on-one duel. Based on the gestures and action we saw, though, it was a pretty heavily scripted experience. Still, there's no scripting a two-handed light saber grip, and that particular action looked like everything we've ever wanted in a Star Wars game.

A parody.

Also, this naysaying was omnipresent before the monumental launch of the Wii.

I'm reserving judgement until I get to see/try it. Buying from Costco for the return policy. Tongue

Indeed, and how many people in here regularely use their Wii? At least, from last I heard people talk about it, it just collected dust, and has been for a while, same as mine, and the friend I know who have it.

Personally, I find the system to be a bit annoying, and dont like to play the way the wii wants me to play. I also find most of the games control system to be lacking, but thats a personal preference I'm sure. Most of the people I know who has one, just dont care enough to play on it

The presentation is taking place on a stage and the actor has his back to the audience.  Where would Kinect be?  That's right, pointing at the audience.  Do you think it would work in a live environment like that?  I don't.  That's the reason why the guy is acting it out instead of actually playing it.

I don't suggest that, if you want something good anyway. There aren't any (steering wheels for 360).
