the big ugly black and green box is 10 years old today(November 15th 2001),as well as of course the launch title Halo

I wasn't a launch machine man myself,i think i was about 2 years too late,so i never did get one of those large controllers,i always had the small one and i thought that was fine

The Xbox Live Headset that went 'around' the back of your head instead of over

using your music...that's right YOUR MUSIC from the HDD to play in GTA in game radio

Xbox Live -for me the defining online game was Star Wars Battlefront, but i have great memories from other online titles:
Midtown Madness 3,Counter-Strike,Black Hawk Down(first console game for 50 players online) and of course Halo 2

Knights of the Old Republic, the mentioned SW:Battlefront,Jedi Knight and Republic Commando all being great Star Wars games(which didn't happen that often in those days)

oh and Shenmue 2 coming with a free DVD of Shenmue I

overall a great machine, and although i have as much fun with the 360 i still miss playing on the big ol' ugly black and green retard

what are your memories of the first Xbox?

That there were better games on the PS2  ninja

I remember playing Kill.Switch, which was basically the model for every 3rd-person cover-based shooter on the 360. It was multi-platform, but I couldn't imagine playing it with the buttons on the ps2 controller.

I also played a lot of Burnout 3 online.

I miss The Duke.  Fit my my mitts perfectly (although I prefer 360 controller button layout).  Very fond memories of this console.

My favorite games were the two Baldur's Gate action RPGs, Crimson Skies and KOTOR (which was the first console RPG I ever completed).

what are your memories of the first Xbox?

That they discontinued it only 5 years later when Sony supported their PS2 for twice as long?

I did love my Xbox though, especially Counter-Strike.. that had to be one of the best FPS's I ever played on a console. I only wish Microsoft wasn't in such a hurry to kill off online support for original Xbox titles.. after all, we were paying them a monthly fee just to play our games so no reason they shouldn't still be supporting original titles.
Believe it or not there are still PS2 titles that have active online communities and there's no monthly fee to upkeep the servers. You play for free, 10 years later.
It's one of the reasons I cancelled my Gold membership and just use my 360 primarily for singleplayer games and my PS3 for online games and streaming.

I never had an Xbox (or 360) but I'm glad that it came about because I'd hate to think what Sony's online offering would be like if they hadn't had Microsoft give them something to aim for.  We'd probably be playing something not much different than the PS2's internet service.
