Been following the live blog from Joystiq.  Thus far, we have:

XNA games will be distributed to the community at large - people can try them, vote on them, etc.
XNA games can move from Windows to Xbox to Zune (oooh).
New features of Unreal Engine demo'd with Gears of War characters.
Ninja Gaiden 2 sounds very nice - and releases June 3rd, 2008.  Has a fancy recording feature that will allow people to upload videos of their play.
Some sort of crossover between Fable 2 and an XBLA gambling game where money earned in the gambling game can be used in Fable.  XBLA game to be released several weeks before Fable.  Fable has co-op where you can bring your SP character into someone else's game, then return to your own game (Crackdown-esque?)

and....

Gears of War 2 in November, 2008!

----

Additional info from Gamerscore Blog:

Xbox LIVE: 1 billion achievements earned!
Xbox LIVE Arcade: New games coming include Braid, Castle Crashers, Defense Grid: The Awakening, Go! Go! Break Steady, and Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness.
XNA Community-developed games: By the end of 2008, Xbox 360 owners will have access to more than 1,000 community-created games.  The first seven are available to download beginning today from Xbox LIVE Marketplace: JellyCar, Little Gamers, Dishwasher, TriLinea, RocketBall, ProximityHD, and Culture.

----

Now there're some pics of the XNA Creator's Club interface at Kotaku.

I dunno about that.  Is GDC a place where big announcements are made?  It never seemed that way to me.

I think that's actually a good idea for the XBLA game tied to Fable 2.  I could see putting some time into that to earn in-game money if it's cool.

Hopefully this time they are able to actually finish Gears, otherwise I say screw their November release dates.

Since the demise of E3 things seem to be shifting toward bigger announcements at the other shows (GDC last year was where Sony unveiled Home and LBP).  But what inevitably happens is that people keep expecting things to be bigger than they actually are, so each new show comes as a slight let down to some because they were expecting announcements on the order of the E3 of old.

I think people were expecting big things at GDC this year because both MS and Nintendo took the tactic of focusing almost exclusively on the '07 lineup at the big shows last year, so people have been expecting some major announcements for '08 any time.

Gears of War 2 news is pretty awesome!  I was thinking that would be 2009.  Also, the Fable 2 stuff is pretty neat.  Co-op sounds like fun!  I hope I can go into someone's game and kill their wife and all the villagers!

Actually, many of those announcements excite me. Fable 2 is starting to sound very good and I'm now thinking it's a day 1 purchase for me. I'm also very interested in NG2 and I think that XNA games being cross platform between Windows and X360 without recoding is much bigger than some here are giving it credit.

New Fable videos are up on Gametrailers.  I'm pretty much sold.

edit:  Just watched video 2 and you can indeed kill spouses!  Also, it is free roam this time... you can jump the fences!  Man, I want this game.. NOW!

Things for GoW2 to do to not suck:

a)  make your friendly AI actually sorta smart this time around

b)  no dumb shooting at bats in the dark levels

c)  let's lighten things up a bit (I'm not saying throw some carebears and such in there, I mean - there were two colors in the game (ok three): black, grey and neon)

d)  focus on co-op: increase player size, yadda yadda

There's now a free GOW2 theme and the teaser trailer up on XBL, apparently.

Ah, trailer's up online now as well - no gameplay footage, sadly.

In addition to the Fable 2 videos, Gametrailers also has a bunch of new Too Human videos from GDC.

Fable is reasonably entertaining, and if they evolve the gameplay well, I'm quite interested in Fable 2. Definitely will be a rental at least. The co-op stuff sounds nifty!

dang, there was a rumor that MS was going to announce a partnership with Netflix to make their 'View it now' option available through XBL.  It would have been nice to have that available without having to do extra work.

Is it an option even with "extra work"?

As happy as I would be to see such a partnership happen, I would be surprised if it ever materialized since it would potentially scavenge from MS's current marketplace movie selection.

That's what revenue sharing's about.

Reed Hastings, the Netflix CEO, was recently named to the MSFT board.  As a result, we get speculative articles like =http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/23214808/this one which, admittedly, have some interesting clues.

well, moving your PC so you can hook it up to your TV gives you the ability to watch them on the big screen, just not through XBL.  Of course then if you want to use your monitor you have to re-wire things afterwards.

Oh yeah, of course. I meant through the 360 itself.  I still feel the lack of an easy and consistent way to get internet-downloaded or streaming video to the main TV in the house (often not in the same room as the PC) is the biggest issue facing mass market adoption of these models.
