Isn't there a rumor as well that XBox 360's will ship with Toshiba HD DVD drives in them?  The rumor mentioned that the first 360's would not have the upgraded DVD drives so Microsoft could meet the launch date, but early the next year the 360's would be upgraded.  If that is true, I'll definitely wait and see what's up.

If either the XBox 360 or Playstation 3 have the mainstream HD DVD players in them, that will really influence my purchase.  I don't think I'll get both systems again, just no time to play.

And those launch games do suck!

I am personally glad I canceled my pre-order.

I'm sure I will end up getting one but not day one like last time.  The launch titles look fairly weak, imho.

I'm looking forward to Oblivion.  But I'm going to need at the very least one other 'must have' game before I pick up the 360.

Also curious to see how the Toshiba HD DVD deal goes.  I'll wait accordingly, even if that ends up being the Betamax of HD DVDs.

Am I the only fool that is looking forward more to the unreleased titles for this generation rather than the upcomming xbox360 et al?

The new zelda, Dragon Quest 8, Burnout Revenge, the new SSX game, Final Fantasy 12 (whenever that is finaly released).

And I still haven't even finished Metal Gear Solid 3, God of War, Devil May Cry 3, or Ninja Gaiden.

Heck, I'm more excited about the new Castlevania DS game that is coming out in 3 weeks in japan (I plan to import).

Nope.  I've seen precious little from the next-gen systems that interests me at all.  We seriously need more good RPG's!

PGR3 - meh. I'll likely buy it to race you chumps, but I'll lose. A lot.
GR3 - hellzya. I'm a big Tom Clancy's Kill All Dem Suckas series.
PDZ - Got my interest. It's a wait and see title for me.
Kameo - hot pixie kicking ass and taking names? Where do I sign?

WHERE is GEARS OF WAR DAMMIT?!!

Oh, as to the early adoption thing : I have just finalized the terms of separation (and subsequent divorce). My son's mom is getting the ex-box (heh, couldn't resist) so I will be consoleless. The agreement is that I get to keep my games, and I get the console until the X360 is out. Then I get a shiny new 360, wireless heaven and my older xbox games on a shiny new 720p 2x AA on my HDTV. (she took the 51" HD CRT RPTV, I've got the 30" HD VVEGA CRT Tube).

If SSX4 or Burnout Revenge aren't on the 360, I'll still get them as long as they're supported on the new platform. Otherwise, I'll just borrow my brothers. ^_^

I'll buy picking one up launch purely for PGR3.  SSX and Madden have always been good games, and I'm sure they'll look awesome in 720p so I'm sure they'll find their way into my house as well.

Yup, angrycoder.

Looking at the new list Hetz provided, I'll add DOA4 on it.

So basically...
DOA4
Kameo (Unless it's complete crap)
PGR3

Now, from what I understand, SSX4 is a current-gen title, so I won't exactly need the X360 for it.

Yeah, according to the interviews with Bethesda, Oblivion will be even more modable than Morrowind.

Just to put it into perspective:

$40 in 1985 == $70 in 2005

$40 in 1990 == $60 in 2005

$60 in 1990 == $90 in 2005

$50 in 1995 (the year the $50 standard was set by Sony) == $62.21 in 2005

So if anything, $60 games today are a (slightly) better bargain than $50 games a decade ago.

While I agree with the premise, I think more of the issue lies with:

Game Price on 11/03/05 = $50
Game Price on 11/04/05 = $60

I don't know, I'm almost sure I remember buying Zelda and Rogue Squadron on N64 for a full on $60.

They were the only two games I ever bought for that system smile

The $60 doesn't bother me that much.  It is so rare that I buy a game right after it comes out as it stands; most I wait until I can get them on EBay for $30 or less.

I don't see changing that habit, so this won't affect more than maybe 3 or 4 games over the lifetime of 360.  I'm more concerned with spending $300 on a system before there are a bunch of games I want that run on it.

Call of Duty 2
Oblivion
PGR 3
Tiger Woods 2006

Possibly:
DOA4
Ghost Recon 3

I'm not entirely sure the games ARE going to $60US. the original rumor started with a Canadian Price listing of 59.99. For reference, an Xbox360 @ 299US = 360CAD. smile The price will be the same as the name... odd, no?

Now, there is one thing we don't know about the launch titles.... the JAPANESE GAMES.

If MS is smart (and since they've got enough munny to BUY smart, I'm going to assume here...) they'd be offering a new service to all game developers... cheap localization. Once they have a gold master, it goes to duplication and to MS for localization / translation for the rest of the markets. I'd REALLY be interested in playing FFXI and eNCHANT aRM [eM], which are rumoured to be launch titles in Japan.

I also hope I can use my existing FFXI character in the X360 version, but I don't know if they're just going to have a dedicated server or how the keyboard / voice-comm is going to work ...  confused

So, do we know if that Wal-Mart price is the hard drive version, or not?

If Oblivion is out the first day, I'll just get that and the 360...  if it will be held off more than a few days, i'll probably get, if available, either of these: Kameo and/ or Perfect Dark Zero.  BUT - if Oblivion is out right away - then everything after that may be bought used, bcz I'm sure I'll play Oblivion for months, which is what I did with Morrowind! Tongue  IT BURNS!!!  I cannot wait!

To my understanding, the PS2 and the PC play on the exact same servers. So I'm gonna assume that the X360 will be on the same ones too.
